One guide to kill them all.

Check section 15.2 for tweaking. And be very careful with BTL on companions - they need fast warhorses and high pro to not suffer with them.

Spears are very effective in formations. Alebards are not. Alebards have side swings and overhead swing. Those will be always blocked by nearby friendly soldiers. Overhead swing will be blocked by soldiers from the back. Spears don't have such disadvantages. Mostly spearmans in Pendor have mix with spears and alebards except Pendor Heavy Spearman. They also have very long pikes. Enemy will be touched by a lot of hits at the same time wich is more deadly then sword formation. And if Pendor Heavy Spearmans placed in shieldwall then pikemans will stay behind. This is the best place for them. And you can get a lot of Pendor Heavy Spearmans from rescuing refuges. They are cheap and easy training. Just don't go for Noldors. They will wipe your infantry in a moment.

It's a pity there is no elite heavy spearmans in Pendor. Mostly they have average armor. But there are a lot of elite dummy alebardmans!

Yeah, halberdiers should be used very carefully. Usually 10 is enough to deal with initial wave of cavalry and then such number will not be too high to have them blocked often by other infantry or exposed too much for missiles.

Spearmen with support can survive but they will never have enough killing power only stopping so overusing them also will lead to bad performance so usually I do not field them on purpose - random troops will have some spears anyway.

Try Mettenheim Spietzknekhts or something. But they are more expensive to use.

They have but they mostly use Long Spears and act as pikemen. I mentioned them in section Key Troops, they are quite unexpectedly amazing troops, strongest in every aspect. If you are willing to pay for hiring and upgrading.
