Key to victory is good armour, for yourself and all soldiers.
For example if you have 25 Companions in elite armour + 30 knights, a small warband of ~60 can defeat a mamluk army of 300.
As you can see, even in this demanding mod anyone can still get super-powerful.
Of course a strong economic groundwork is essential to outfit and deploy such a warband.
imo easiest way is to get hired as a mercenary. The wages adapt to the costs, leaving just a small leftover for the player to pay by himself.
Lastly every kind of enemy needs special tactics as response, because the ai has been improved dramatically.
eg against horsearchers, which can be very annoying, i recommend riding clockwise around your allied infantry and focus on horses when they pass by.
