Cavallery unit assignment and deploy in battle

It would like to assign any kind of hoseman to one unit slot i.e. heavy cavallery.
But on every start of the save game, all units are re-assigned to their native slot.
Is this on purpose?

Then, when raiding a villag all cavallary is always deployed in the middle of the village whereas the rest of the troops is deployed outside.
So, my cav is regularly taking losses because they seem to beam directly to towncenter upon raid.
Why is this not being corrected?
