I've heard it before somewhere but can't remember the answer. I think it could be a king who has cut off lots of peoples heads?

As fun as it is seeing the million crazy responses to this one, I think I must reveal that it's a dreadful Anglo-Saxon joke (an authentic one mind!) and that the answer is a one eyed garlic seller with 1200 heads of garlic.

Ok I found one I liked

I see a woman loved by a child, the woman never speaks to her, feeds her or protects her from harm, but the child loves her as much as any mother or sister.

What do I see?

I'm going to think on that over morning coffee  :???:

What do I see?

My money is on a dead mother.

I am a strange creature, for I satisfy women.
I grow very tall, erect in bed,
I'm hairy underneath. From time to time
A beautiful girl, the brave daughter
Of some fellow dares to hold me
Grips my reddish skin, robs me of my head
And puts me in the pantry. At once that girl
With plaited hair who has confined me
Remembers our meeting. Her eye moistens.

An Anglo-Saxon barbie doll.

What crawls in the morning, walks on two legs in the afternoon, and walks on three legs in the evening?

^^ Yes, it's a human - the day is a metaphor for a lifetime.

I was going to post that one too, cos it's a good one, but it's not particularly Anglo Saxon - it's the riddle of the Sphinx, supposedly a riddle from the ancient Egyptians.
