300/Battle of Thermopylae MINIMOD

Users who are viewing this thread

You might have noticed that the Rapidshare link died. I finally got upload access to the repository, so there's the link!

Thermopylae 0.0.1alpha

This is the download I posted earlier. It does NOT include the movie-accurate map and all the other cool things Highlander has been adding in the past few days.

Played the mod, and I have to say, its comeing along quite nicely, though you guys should put up like a camp where you can actualy outfit yourself.

This mod is pretty damn awesome. Just keep adding on to it and it will look great. Although I have some suggestions.

Make the Sparatans stronger! Make ALL persians about 1/2 the strenegth or less than the spartans other than the imortals which should be pretty damn close.

Also give the spartan armor and weapons better stats!!! Some of the persians carry stronger helments or armor or swords than the spartans. What the heck?

And last but not least. Get a REAL spartan helment.

Otherwise great mod, oh and get rid of the old mount and blade stuff, even tho its kind of fun lol.

Good luck on your mod. I hope to play it more in the future!

It's interesting how well a simple concept like this works and plays. Nice screens btw

I've been tweaking the spartans a lot and the reason why they're relatively weak (compared to the specs in the OP) is because in my tests (battlesize 40) the Spartans would mop the floor with everyone but the heavy infantry and the immortals (I think I'll get rid of the heavy infantry type, though, and replace them with some 4th-wave elite archer) and I would only lose about 2-4 Spartans per skirmish in the lower waves. Most of the time, Spartans would only die if they seperated from the main group and got mobbed by enemies. It just seemed too easy, but I myself am a little annoyed that it's a tad bit harder to wreak havoc now.

Based on the fact that the xiphos is a tiny weapon (compared to most swords) I figure it would be best to keep the damage about the same but make it even faster. This will make it more fun and easier to take on several enemies at once: in Native and other mods I find that the best foot combat weapons are usually the fastest, because when enemies mob you there's only a tiny window of opportunity to get a counter-attack in.

In the next release, though, I do think I want to turn up the power strike ability for the Spartans, or just make the player's abilities equal to Leonidas'.

This past weekend, the Sharpbronze content was buggy or something, and due to a very confusing set of errors I gave up on trying to import any helmets. Highlander's version has all of this fixed, though, along with an accurate battlemap and everything.

Rathyr, nice screens. My computer would die if I tried to put about half of the amount of people you have there.

Ive done abit of reasearch on spartans. And noticed that the swords are bigger then they are in the mod Take a look.  http://www.lastsquare.com/MiniCatalog/Largefigs/lftmp-21.jpg

The Ancient Greek xiphos was roughly about 60 cm (24 inches) long. In the late 5th century BC though the Spartans adopted a much shorter sword that was barely more than a dagger.

1. What's with that documentary using visuals from RTW?

2. When they narrarator announced the Xiphos, what the hoplite actually pulled out was a Kopis.
