    So... the Custom Battle Mode.

I Think he was talking about someone else...

So you think I wanted to troll... by posting a long, thought-out thread about a legitimate issue? That's a strange way of trolling.

The AI operating like that was in WB...

That said, Custom Battle mode in Native Warband does not include even the rudimentary AI that is in Native SP battles. Native Warband Custom battles the enemy always charges: no more, no less.

That's because there are no "Lords" in Custom Battles. Only Lords can give orders, and in Custom Battle, the enemy party is always leaderless. In the Campaign, enemy parties without Lords (Like bandits and so forth) behave the same way - no-one's around to give them orders, so they just charge straight at you and die. It's intentional.

I've never been able to figure out why they didn't include an option to give the enemy party a Lord in native Custom Battle.

    ---

I actually have this vain, little hope that the enemy force in the NW Custom Battle -mode is actually supposed to have a commander-like character who can give orders, but he's not spawning due to a bug. This could explain why the AI either just takes up position where it spawns, (the default behaviour for NPCs who have not been given any orders.), or simply charge mindlessly at you. (The default behaviour for NPCs who have not been given any orders in vanilla Mount & Blade/Warband.)

    So... the Custom Battle Mode.

dont get snotty with me mate. just play commander battle that makes up for all this crap you are whining about

If that's the attitude you're going to take, I suggest you drag your worthless and thoroughly unproductive arse out of this thread. You have nothing to contribute with.

    So... the Custom Battle Mode.

you know your stuff mate i'll give you that.

I beg your pardon? You make it come off as some obscure, arcane knowledge that takes effort to become aware of. It really isn't.

The case is really simple. I asked if the "Custom Battle"-mode would be ****, they said it wouldn't be. I then played the game, and it is ****.

I think the most unfortunate part is that the mode itself, on paper, is pretty good. They've taken the original mode, and instead of half-heartedly porting it over to NW, they've actually taken the time and effort to make that mode something worthwhile, and not the throwaway nonsense from the original. And then all of that is rendered completely pointless because they don't actually have an opponent for you to fight.

    So... the Custom Battle Mode.

As the game is 100% multiplayer, I was surprised when the developers told me that the game had still kept the "Custom Battle" -feature from the original Mount & Blade, (which was incidentally a result of me personally suggesting it to the original developers.) Upon hearing this, I was initially...

    My NW ''Gaming Snack''!

Wow. Spamming the forum with irrelevant nonsense is ****ing fun, eh?

    Bugs!

When? Surely you mean 'if they have been fixed'.

    *Sigh.* Don't remind me.
  7. InferiorBeing

    Bugs!

You forgot to include the most important part: the actual performance measurement!

    Urgh. Of course.

I uninstalled the game, deciding to download it again later when the worst launch-bugs ought to have been fixed. I'll get back to you then. :???:

Can't issue orders in Custom Battle.

If you wait a few minutes the bots will begin to attack. In testing the custom battles I found the bots do one of two things: they charge right out of spawn, or they sit in spawn for a few minutes then start firing their muskets.

I only ever saw the bots charge right at me and get massacred. Not good gameplay.

    ITS ON STEAM

Is the STEAM-version more complete than the GamersGate-version? GamersGate mistakenly released an earlier build, and mayhem ensued on my system. Is this version better?
  10. InferiorBeing

    Bugs!

Does anyone know if the STEAM-version will be more complete?

Problem on an almost biblical scale.

I see we have a comical genius in the forum. Delightful.

    Bugs!

On the topic of bugs, the performance is quite poor.

    My computer:

Two Radeon HD 6990s in CrossFire.
    Intel Core-i7 950.
    6+ GB of RAM.
    Windows 7 64-BIT.
The game runs from a fast SSD-drive.

So you see, my computer is quite beefy. No reason for the game to run so poorly.

Can't issue orders in Custom Battle.

It is an issue with the movement order, specifically, correct?

    Yes.
  14. InferiorBeing

    Bugs!

    Install nw, then that patch.

I did that, and I have the same problem.

Can't issue orders in Custom Battle.

Just tried a Custom Battle. Whenever i try to give my guys an order, the game CTDs. I have the newest version of Warband, and the preliminary NW hotfix.

    Why no singleplayer?

Squads are controlled like in WB you control your divisions.

    Of course. Clever.
  17. InferiorBeing

    Why no singleplayer?

You can have up to 10 squads of different bot kinds, with a count up to 50 bots per squad. These squads can be commanded around separately so you could make any impressive formation...

    How exactly does that work?
  18. InferiorBeing

    Why no singleplayer?

Half-assed way?... No, it works very well and provides a very fun gamemode.

If that's true, you did more than "Warband" and "With Fire and Sword" ever could.

You can have up to 10 squads of different bot kinds, with a count up to 50 bots per squad.
These squads can be commanded around separately so you could make any impressive formation, think of having 20 rifleman in front spread out, behind it, 50 highlanders of foot and just your horse guard cav ready on the left flank to charge when the enemy gets too close, all these things and much more are added to enhance the native quick battle.

You can assign a army to the AI opponent in a similar fashion, he will control his squads with tactics and so on.

Wow. I think I'm interested, now.

    Why no singleplayer?

stop with all those little remarks that don't add much

They're replies. I'm not going to write an essay if the message can be conveyed in a few words.

Clearly, the devs saw a chance to make their MULTIPLAYER (which did really well, on some days 400 people in regiments attending linebattles, still 100 or so in public servers and another 50 so playing in private servers, and many taking a day of rest), so why shouldnt they get some more press and be able to make money off of it?

I'm not saying they shouldn't be allowed to make a multiplayer game, (although I personally disagree with it.), I'm just asking if said multiplayer game has got any sort of bot-element to it. When they subsequently answered that the game does support basic bots, I wanted to know more about them. This isn't me asking them to make a different game, nor am I making "little remarks that don't add much". They have a game I see myself as potentially buying, and I'd like to know as much about that game as possible. I think that's a fairly normal thing to do.
  20. InferiorBeing

    Why no singleplayer?

Of course we have siege gamemode for multiplayer, like stated everywhere were mainly focused around multiplayer, that is by no means a bad thing.

Nonetheless, when you do choose to include a "Custom Battle"-component, people expect you to make that mode as good as possible for what it is. It is always better to not include something at all, than to include something in an uninspired, half-assed way. I'm sure you agree with me on this.

You have to understand that a large amount of games in this world are multiplayer only, which are very popular games and get played by millions of people, are they suddenly all bad?

To answer your question: As far as I'm concerned, yes. They are games I don't like. So I guess you could say that sort of means that I find them "bad", in a sense.

Bots can stand in pretty well in most gamemodes, though their more bound to prefer to use their musket as ranged weapon unless you get close...

Isn't that how you're supposed to use a musket? :???:

    cav works very well.

Note that not all maps support bots fully...

    ...this will be updated.

    Please do.

Ofcource, a bot can't replace a player fully, and that's where the popularity for this DLC will come from, the large active and solid community.

I'm never ever going to be so unreasonable as to ask for bots that can fully replace a player. I'm not insane. I just want them to be smart and adaptive enough to be fun and entertaining to play with.
