Awesome!  Don't worry; you're a keen enough student of the rest of it that I'm sure you'll get the hang of the painting side pretty quickly; feel free to post stuff in the 3D thread to get specific pointers / critique, I don't mind giving guidance there on technique issues.

hey,  you mind if i copy some bits and pieces of your textures from the osp pack you released?

Just a regular ole knife (filename ancient_knife) I had completely forgotten that I even had.

Hiya Mackie, coupel of questions. Or rather two:

Is the Khopesh supposed to wielded like a sword or a dagger? Handle looks fairly big for a sword, unless it's a short one.

Are you going to release these as an OSP?

you know what, im not sure  I guess whatever works best, im planning to eventually do another.
I am releasing them as I go in lwo, obj and 3ds formats, feel free put em ingame if you like.
-I dont, however, do bumps/speculars because i completely suck at doing those so the person putting the weapons ingame will have to do them.

the link to the weapons is on the first page.

The khopesh was a slashing sword, not terribly large (total length was maybe 2 feet).

So the handle's what it should be, it just needs to be adjusted to scale.  Compared to, say, a 12th-century arming sword, it is certainly not a long weapon.

I love the knife, btw; it's like a really fancy chef's knife

Oh yeah, I know that, I'm just thinking that the handle makes it look like a short-khopesh, if one could imagine such a thing.

Revisited/redid my old round axe, 1 texture (512x256) & 1 uvmap instead of a bazillion separate ones.
its still one hell of an ugly duckling but i like it
I guess you could consider this as me practicing how to mess with map coordination.

I love that one, awesome find!  What culture / period is this from?

I think the metal parts need some hand-paint love and the handle needs some adjustment of the beveled corner uvs to get stretching down, but with a halfway-decent normalmap and spec, it'd be pretty darn nice

Anyhow, keep on truckin' and don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good; I'll take a look at that one and do a second pass.  I totally love that form

This was actually a gun axe I tried to do but it turned out to be too damn difficult so i went like, 'well f*ck, ill make something out of it yet' and that came out of the project. -that being said, no its not tied to any culture but as for the period, lets say 16-18th centuries cause thats when gun axes were the cool thing to have.

What?  They went out of style?

Poor Space Marines; they're so 17th Century

That does tempt me to find a way to strap a gun barrel to that, though, lol!

heres something that kicked my ass all day long before I FINALLY got it the way i wanted to.
its a thracian sword called rhomphaia.
690 polies.
also, inb4 mackie that tip of the sword looks awfully dark; indeed it is but do follow the top half of blade, its more or less as equally light in texture for the entire length of the blade.
the darker lower half is a result of oxidation.

Did you unwrap that? It looks GREAT! The wood tex needs to look more...warband esque, but I love it!
yeah i did, probably why it took as long as it did for me to get it done
the wood is what it is, the whole texture is a combination of two different photos of the weapon and me sampling/mixing the photos; also my first attempt at a wood texture, im kinda ok with it.
besides, i already released it and i dont feel like uploading a fix after a fix after a fix when i get something wrong.
-i will however, try and learn from my mistakes and improve upon them when possible

Like I said, it looks awesome as-is. It would look more WB esque with a good bump/specular done by someone *cough* Xeno *cough* who has experience with it (I can do it too, just really busy today. Lol).
Also, I will say that you have already made a definite improvement.

good good
im gonna give making bumps and speculars another go tonight my self, not sure if lightwave knows how to render them in a similar fashion that mnb be does. but anyway, ill try and link here

Nice!  Looks like my peasants need an upgrade, stat

youd be surprised how efficient that thing is at lobbing heads off, it doesnt get stuck like an axe does if you throw in a slight pull into your slash. ive killed quite a few animals with one when meat cleavers were not available, pigs and sheep included.
its also possible to make the entire tip round so that it doesnt get stuck at all whatsoever, not very good for cutting tree branches but better at butchering things.

I totally believe that; it looks like something that you could put a spike on and have a very nasty weapon for war; it's be like a scorpion with a cutting action to the inner curve of the hook.
