Wolfpack (formerly known as HMS-Marulken)

Users who are viewing this thread

Wolfpack is a coop submarine sim similar to silent hunter series. Each play can man a station on a sub. It used to be known as HMS-Marulken and had a focus on Swedish subs but has now moved its theme to German subs due to popularity. The video explains the basics.

OUTDATED INFORMATION:
Received a letter from subsim which I will post below. HMS-Marulken is a subsim that's currently on kickstarter and is similar to Silent Hunter but you play as a Swedish submarine in an alternate WW2 history. It will be multiplayer and each player can mount a station in the submarine.

You can download the current version of the game from hmsmarulken.se

People ask me, "When will work on Silent Hunter 6 be started?"  Who knows? At this time, Ubisoft has not revealed any interest in continuing the series. People are also asking me why Subsim cannot produce a community-based game. Well, maybe we can. I think we are actually at a point where a non-Ubisoft game could surpass SH5, because this week I spent 6 hours in the new world of a groundbreaking WWII subsim: HMS Marulken.

HMS Marulken is a lot like SH5, where you can move about the sub, but a key difference is, you interact with the controls directly, not though a user interface. For example: to change depth, you don't merely click on a dial, in Marulken you actually pull a lever that opens a flood valve and fills the tank until you reach the depth ordered (don't overshoot!). And say you want to surface and switch propulsion to the diesels; you would flip a switch that reroutes the circuit from batteries to diesels, flip another pair of switches to energize the starter circuit, and crank the big diesels to life. And then you can decide how much power you want to send to the screws, and how many volts to jam back into the batteries for your next submerged attack. That's just the tip of the iceberg as far as features go, wait till you try your hand at intercepting radio transmissions and decoding them with the Enigma, or inputting fire control data into the TDC.

HMS Marulken is still in early alpha state and the devs have many more features planned, but it is impressively detailed and functional. Subsim has asked the dev team to set up a demo, waiting for you to download and try out. It is stable, I have not experienced a single crash thus far. But that's not the really cool part....

.. this game is designed for four players to man the sub as a team! Yep, co-op subsim play may actually surface before the Terminators rise to destroy the planet.

The game has four different roles; Captain, Navigator, Chief Engineer, and Radio/Sonar Operator. And believe me, this changes everything. It's really stimulating to manage a warship as a team, as compared to single player. You are closer to simulating a submarine that ever before. Read all the details in my preview here: http://www.subsim.com/2016/preview_HMSMarulken.php

Yeah, I'm really stoked about this game, I sure hope you will have a look, tell me what you think, sir.

The forum to discuss the game is here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=277

Download the playable demo here: http://hmsmarulken.se/index.html

The devs even have a Kickstarter to help them speed up development of the game, you can find it here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1655728789/hms-marulken-reboot

I have seen the future of subsims and the brightest ray of light is HMS Marulken.

Good hunting!

Swedish u-boat, best u-boats.

Sounds interesting and honestly as Neal said, at this point anyone could probably make a better/more compelling submarine simulator game than Ubisoft.

Also, donated, because a) Swedish u-boats, b) Swedish game, and c) actually looks interesting/fun.

Maybe they can follow the logic of Paradox Interactive and release 1100 DLCs after release that add different submarines and other historical campaigns.  :iamamoron:

Apparently, Kickstarter is canceled, Subsim is now helping them with funding and it will be a proper U-boat simulator.

Skvader Studios says:

Dear backers!

We have some very important news. The game has been successfully funded, but not through Kickstarter. We have established a partnership with Subsim, one of the biggest submarine simulator communities.

After discussing with the Subsim community we have decided on some changes to the game that deviate somewhat from what we have promised in this kickstarter campaign. Because of this, we have decided to cancel this Kickstarter campaign. We don’t want to make any promises we don’t keep, so we feel that cancelling the campaign is the right thing to do.

The changes will not affect the game mechanics, but does affect the story and setting. We have decided to not make a alternative history game about Sweden, and instead make on a more realistic, German U-boat game. This decision will be a disappointment for some, and please others. This is why we have decided to cancel the Kickstarter and start off on a clean slate.

The new version of the game will have a new name, which will be revealed soon. It will feature co-op game play with dynamically generated missions. The players will man a type VII German U-boat.

For those of you that want early access, the game will be released as an early access game on Steam, when the new type VII U-boat interface is implemented.

Thank you so much for supporting us, and we hope that you will follow the development of the new project! Updates and details will be available on our facebookpage and also here:http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php…

Best regards

Einar and Oscar

Honestly, probably a smarter choice, a proper German U-boat sim is likely to attract a much broader (if still very niche) audience.

Personally, just going to shift my funding for the game to Early Access on Steam when they have that up.

Do y'all mofos even know what a Marulk is?

Well, let's hope they will finish it and it will turn out right. Staying with the Swedish lolsetting would spare them the pressure they will feel once the community starts *****ing that the screws on the port diesel engine are not historical and that T3 torpedo was 1.25 knots faster.
