Blunderbuss is the English word for Donderbus. In French, the bell-flared weapon can be more precisely called a Tromblon. Which apparently comes from the Italian Trombone, obviously because of the horn's bell flare. And I like the idea of unwieldy horns firing shot at people, so I propose we borrow the French word or start calling them trombone-muskets.

Period French and English sources just use it to mean carbine. I suspect the sense of 'blunderbuss' is modern. People are always calling things by the wrong name these days.
