Hello all! ?

Heres a humble suggestion that I would like to give and hopefully, to see implemented in game by devs one day ♥

I would like to compile some photos/images in this thread based on the Vlandians specifically, about their gear and armor. (Btw I would also like to see more ideas here from more people later if possible)

There are some armors that I would love to see added to the vlandian faction since they are missing or just lacking atm, like shoulder armor (heavy/medium ones), more mail armors/tabards, helmets; like phrygian helm with facemask, spangenhelm with faceguard, full helmets, etc...

(Vlandians are my fav faction too! ?)

Here are some pics based on what I think that would make the vlandian faction more unique in terms of armor style (new armors aggregation)...

NOTE: this is the closest to plated armors but its not full plated armor. I'm aware the game is not set in 12th nor 13th century. But vlandians lack some kind of armors, and most of them are shoulderguards.

So, tell me your thoughts on this, please.

(sry, English is not my native language)

Thanks for your time! :xf-wink:

EDIT: Some armors in "General bonus armor/helmets section" are in the game, but pls take note on the shoulder armor that belong to each armor there.

+100. Yes please.

Also fix character lighting please in Inventory menu please so we can see all this dead sexy gear on our character. If I turn up brightness so I can see my characters in Party, Inventory and other menus the campaign map becomes too bright so that all of the details become washed out.

Those look a helluva lot better than those ugly visored helmets that a lot of Vlandian troops wear atm. That thing looks like it was haphazardly put together.

The flat top transitional full helmets are already in the game, there are ~9 variations of them currently, depending on the undercap. Also that blue soldier armor - already in the game too:
image.jpg
CYMFI.png

There are also several kinds of Phrygian helmets
20200520105557_1.jpg
admittedly, the game currently lacks Phrygian transitional helmet (with facemask), and i am all in for introducing several new kinds of those, from the images you posted, as well as some shoulder pieces, and some nice looking "Bayeux tapestry" scales.

Other than that, nothing in the "Bonus" section would really fit Vlandia, most of the images here are
Persian-Ottoman (plated mail Yushman armor) and Byzantine (klivanions of Theodore Stratelates and St Nestor), you also have those Sutton Hoo helmets, which are Anglo-Saxon from couple hundred years before approximate events in Bannerlord, and wouldn't fit in the current Bannerlord timeline or any current faction.
Those late roman ridged helmets with celtic engravings are already in the game and they rightfully belong to Battania, and that Avar helmet has no fit to any current faction in the game as well. As for the last picture (Kiev Rus soldier), which you can replicate it almost 100% using the new Sturgian armors and helmets (there is also an open variant of the helmet in the game)

20200515155908_1.jpg

Even though anachronism is not a foreign subject in Bannerlord, there has to be some cultural consistency, and i would scrap most of those bonuses for Vlandia specificaly (some scales are nice).

A suggestion-use the Beta branch, and turn the cheat engine ON in the documents, so when you enter character inventory, you can access ALL the items that are in the game.

Hello Piconi! How are you? I hope you are well... Thanks for your comments mate. Its very nice to have some feedback here.

I would like to take note on some reffering items you are speaking of, that maybe they weren't very clear before in my post I think..

- The Phrygian helmet indeed need a facemask variant in the game atm... The flat top helmet with facemask I honestly think it needs rework in the game, because the one that is already in the game has an "oval" facemask IMHO.

- Please, consider the "Bonus section" for a " Armor in general" and not only for vlandians... The sturgian photo and armor you are speaking of you are right, its already in the game... but I would like to pay attention to the shoulder armor there. The game has slot for shoulder armors for the player character to use and I think it lacks so many kinds of shoulder armors.

-I'm aware of the Cheat option in the game, I already checked all armors available to the player. Some ideas here may not be historically accurate nor cultural accurate. I'm not a historian, but I honestly think with the right developer avaliation more armors and new ones could be fitted in the game and directed to the right culture and faction, even with some modifications if needed. Right now the game is not 100% historically accurate since there are trebuchets in it, thats why I think anachronism would be welcome.

Everything good, thanks, you be well too!

Then i missunderstiood the "bonus" section, sorry about that, but the statements for the individual images and their cultural belonging still stand tho.

If i was totaly anti-anachronistic, which i'm not, i would suggest the removal of the classic crossbows (even with gastraphetes and arcubalistas exsisting long before in europe, not enough cultural ties to the west europe normans, the official inspiration for the Vlandians, and look too "high medieval-y"), bastard swords and many different things for other factions as well, but i gladly accept slight anachrony, in the name of diversity, recognition and aesthetics.

My tolerance for anachrony heavily depends on the faction in matter, actually. For example, we could throw in some arms and armor of the british isles' celts of 4th century BC for Battania, and their in-game identity wouldn't change much, if at all, even though the difference would be ~12 centuries in between.

However, if we were to plop a Sutton Hoo helmet on a Vlandian, it would very much influence aesthetics, more so because it's a product of the Roman+Vendel/Valsgärde influence on the Anglo-Saxons, not exactly how anyone would imagine the classic west Europe Normans, even though they have very similar geographical and cultural backgrounds, and the influences are only a couple of centuries apart, in some cases not apart by the timeline at all.

This is just me being a nitpicker that i am, excuse me for that, and you are right about the sergeants helmet, the game would benefit a lot from having a reshaped version of the early "full helm".

Also, i agree with the point of the lack of shoulder armor in general, some factions suffer more, some less.

You have a very good eye for details, please continue searching for real life photos (museum, reenactments, LARP stores etc, if possible), of the beautiful items for other factions as well, as i know the concept artists consider those very precious, and can turn into concepts of their own, for the game, much easier than by looking at someone else's drawings, concepts etc, even pictographic books' illustrations.

just keep off the fantasy/too-much-leather armors and such

Yeah you are very right about the Sutton Hoo helmet. Btw, I can't really explain why but I think the Battania faction "could" use it. Don't you think it would fit them somehow?

I'll take that as a compliment, thanks! :xf-smile: I'll try to keep looking and posting more photos here to update this thread, since I really like armors and such things. I would love to see more good looking stuff added to the game!

Don't worry about the fur/leather armors fantasy thing, I know this game is keeping original (historical) armors, and because of that I'm here trying to help with some armor looks feedback!.

I think it wouldn't fit Battania, but it would have it's place in the game, just in another faction.
Reasoning-As it's very very similar to the Vendel period Valsgärde helmets (1-2 centuries pre-viking Scandinavia), so Sutton Hoo could potentially be used by the Nords, not Skolderbroda per se, but perhaps the major Nord faction, after a potential Nord DLC.
Wouldn't be a perfect fit, but it could pass as a lordly helmet perhaps.

What i would like and see fit for Battanians (and have been so suggesting that since long ago), are the classic celtic helmets, up to the Romano-British culture, perhaps even including the Benty Grange and Staffordshire (Hoard) helmets for lords and king, but that's very fancy and is optional

Yeah... I think the addition of Sutton Hoo helmet to the game would be pretty neat for future content perhaps, even sooner maybe lol. If you take a closer look and compare Sutton Hoo helmet with the Staffordshire Hoard helmet, you can easily say they have similarities at the back side. Ignoring the fact that the Sutton Hoo helm has facemask on front side, etc.

Comparison:

Btw I'm all in favor the idea of addtion of classic celtic helmets, Benty Grange and Staffordshire Hoard helmet (Lords) for the Battanians.. :xf-grin:

And I would like to know your opinion on this helmet (for Battania faction):

If you take a closer look and compare Sutton Hoo helmet with the Staffordshire Hoard helmet, you can easily say they have similarities at the back side. Ignoring the fact that the Sutton Hoo helm has facemask on front side, etc.

Comparison:

Btw I'm all in favor the idea of addtion of classic celtic helmets, Benty Grange and Staffordshire Hoard helmet (Lords) for the Battanians.. :xf-grin:

And I would like to know your opinion on this helmet (for Battania faction):

(another variant of the plumed helmet, ignore the norse detail)----------------------------------(the one already in the game, plumed helmet)
I love ite, thé horse helmet is so classy.
There à skyrim with this helmet for whiterun guard.
I want it for my character

+1. Nice.
Armor in the game is still lacking. The newly added Sturgia armor in particular looks great, but there is shoulder armor that fits It is not. Simple and usable shoulder armor, as there are several other armors that don't have a match The models will be in demand.

Also, one thing I've been wondering about lately is color. The only face mask helmet looks black. I would prefer it to be more silver or have a blackish ramellar armor.

Thanks for your feedback!
I feel the same, armors need to match its pieces and the armor colors need to match somehow.

OR (if possible)

We could choose the armor material colors in game, something like silver/copper/bronze/golden armors (If devs implement this feature)

They could add variants of the Gaelic helmet for Battania and variants of the burgh helmet for the empire.

Add other Pavise shield designs

I think they could also add a shoulder mail of a darker color to match the other vlandia chainmail armor.

Vlandian champion horse armor could wear tabard with our banner

Finally it would be great if the swadian knight skin was recovered and used in the vlandia banner knight and equipt with a great lance

I know it does not match the period, but as Vlandia is on the side of the empire it would not be strange that the wealthiest knights could afford a plate armor similar to the cataphracts of the empire.

Eh, the cataphracts of the Empire specifically don't wear platemail. They're the heaviest units in the game, but they only wear lamellar or scale armour.
