Randomly getting 29999 experience

Sometimes when i'm playing diplomacy, I will randomly get a message saying 'you got 29999 experience), and level up.  I'm pretty sure it's not intentional, as that's a huge amount of exp for not really doing anything, and i've never experieenced this in native.  Does anypne know how to fix this?

this is caused by a Player deserter party which managed to defeat another party.
