What do you mean by "characters"? Do you mean the NPCs or the letters (as in, Chinese and similar languages since you said non-English)?

I was playing the mod yesterday and everything seemed fine.

Well, for instance, a number of factions such as the Holy Roman empire have used Latin characters, which my laptop displayed as a question mark "?" instead.
