My python files keep corrupting, any idea why?

This is the thrid time now I have spent hours on a file, compiled and then when I go back into edit and the file is corrupted and won't open when I click "edit with Idle".

It just happened now with my dialogues.py after loads of work. Feeling pretty demoralised right now, anyone know why this happens?

I heard that some people had problem with IDLE. Can't remember how to fix it.

I use Notepad++. Never had any problem so far.

Thanks SPD_Phoenix, that was good advice as I downloaded notepad++ and it now opens despite IDLE not working. The work is now saved
