Music and speeches

I have just made a bard character for a little change. Can I ask what effects the success rate of music and speeches? I imagine music is entertain, but what affects speeches? I'm getting tired of losing 10 renown every time I make a speech!

It's a mix of entertain and persuasion.

Aha, that makes sense. My character has more entertainment than persuasion. Does entertainment work like it does in Brytenwalda? Only, I've not seen any notifications telling me "your party enjoys the entertainment" etc.

As far as I've seen, there's no passive effect from it while travelling at the moment, only when you play in cities.
