Hero fallen - can I select amother commander to lead?

When besieging or on the feilds I noticed sometimes I am able to become another party member after my hero has fallen but sometimes I go into a free range camera view and watch the fight, is there a way to become a playable character when in free camera mode?

I actually dont know why the free camera happens sometimes,but its quite rare,99 % the times i' ve got knocked out i became another soldier in my party,the times i've been stuck in the free camera i just had companions on the field,or maybe you just can spawn as your own unit,and if there is a allie fighting in your side you wont be able to return to the battle

I assume other lords are with you when this happens. It's because your army is made up only of companions, which you can't control. you need regular troops to take control of.
