Der, no. Remarkably as it may seem, not every European monstrosity is based on an American one. Besides, 'regular' Idols and all the similar hellish products are more like American Idol. However, American Idol is the Pop Idol (a British invention) for America. So in this case Americans took over a hellish abomination from Brits.
