EMPIRES OF FAITH
An RPG mod with persistent characters and a complex, semi-historical strategic layer

It is the thirteenth century, by the Christian reckoning, in a world slightly different than our own. In the West, the Holy Roman Emperor has seized Rome, asserted his dominance over the papacy, and numbers the kings of Britain, France, and Spain as his vassals. His rival in Christendom, the Basileus in Constantinople, still holds Greece and Asia Minor and has extended his suzerainty into Russia. The Caliphate, after a century of rapid expansion, ran into fierce resistance in Anatolia, Central Asia, and India and has consolidated, but also avoided the pitfalls of relying on a slave soldiery. The Turks of Central Asia united with their fellow nomads of the steppe to confront the Muslim invasion and have forged a strong, lasting khaganate, amalgamating the mystic traditions of Tibetan Buddhism with their own traditional sky god to create a religion of imperial rule. The emperor of China, though racked by civil wars, never completely abandoned the Tang Dynasty's imperial ambitions, and continues to contest with the khaganate for control of the Silk Road. In India, the Cholas of Tamil Nadu have expanded their sea empire to make tributaries throughout southeast Asia, and have sent armies of religious devotees to the north to fight the Muslim incursion in the name of Shiva, Krishna, and the Goddess. These six imperial powers, each proclaiming to be uphold the will of the Heavens upon earth, contest with each other for dominance while at home they struggle with restless vassals, rebellious nobles, ungovernable tribes, and others. It is the age of the empires of faith.

Optional patch for 0.401

This is a fairly small patch. Copy the files inside over presentations and scripts in the module file. It should give correct messages as to what caravan loot is lootable in player caravan mode, and should provide better indication of what factions you can join in all player-sponsored missions.

It should not have an impact on gameplay.

Three servers should be up, two in Europe and one in North America
Note -- the game is meant to be playable and fun with relatively few players on the server. (There are a lot of bots to fight).

* A world map that reflects the ebb and tide of conquest
* Faction politics pitting nobles against tribes against merchant leagues, and in which different religious trends compete for influence

This is the mod formerly known as Caravan Raiders.

The goals: a historically immersive multiplayer game with MMORPG-like features.

There are currently two parts to the mod

Multiplayer battles on the server using the Warband engine:

These are multiplayer but also feature lots of bots, making for a challenging experience both when playing with others or on an otherwise empty server. Gold and renown is earned and characters can upgrade, but starting characters should also be competitive and there should be little sense of grinding.

The strategic layer on the website:

Right now, you develop your character by buying estates, urban connections, and the like. You can also follow your faction's victories and defeats on the map -- but you can only influence the course of events through fighting in battles, and the outcomes do not have too much of an impact on your dynasty's fortunes. This will change. I hope to eventually give the strategic layer enough depth to make it a worthy game in its own -- I don't know if I'll ever get to the level of, say, Crusader Kings or EU, but that's the distant goal in my sights. There are some features that I hope to activate in a few weeks or so.

You can also play single-player by hosting a game. Any game you host won't be "official," however, and your winnings will not be uploaded.

DISCLAIMER: Although this has MMORPG-like features, this is still under development. I will try to make sure that no player loses their progress in the game -- although the stats themselves, and what they mean, might change.

The map however may be reset from time to time.

It depends on which game mode you're playing. Hit "i" in-game and that tell you the mode and give you instructions, or check the instructions thread.

hey this IP like that is blocked in our country for safety reasons.... can you bring a real url ?

you can get a free domain from  http://co.cc or http://dot.tk

EDIT: not on my responsibilty im not sure if those are good sites or no

The DL link isn't working for me, nothing happens when I click download. Never had this problem downloading before.

Gotta give it a try today later on when I get home. I hate working during the nights.

EDIT: Finally got my hands on it, but it was really downloading for a long time for a file of that size. File any bigger would be a pain in the ass. 40-200kt/s...

EDIT: Had some fun for a moment when there were two other guys with me on the caravan raid, but then it switched off to herd stealing, so after a while we noticed that the bots are maiking it impossible to steal any with that being noticed they quickly left and so did I.

the bots are maiking it impossible to steal any with that being noticed

I may still need to balance this mode. Right now I'm thinking about putting a couple of permanent foot guards near the corrals, and have significantly fewer horsemen descend on them. But, there are a couple of ways of stealing cattle without changes -- for example, watch what happens from above, and when the enemy horsemen respond to a bot raid on one village, attack the other.

Those naval battles look awesome! And realistic too with the animated paddles!

Thanks! I'm not sure about putting them up on the servers, because they can get a bit jittery for the clients at ping over 50. But it should run smoothly if you host it yourself as a single player. (Be sure to set it to a coastal province, though!)

Thanks to Phaiak and his Klabautermann for showing how to do them.

Np, its always a good idea to have a alt download, and from experiance ive never had trouble with file smelt which is why i suggested it ^.^

btw great mod, Myself and a group of us from RCC (Pw mod clan) have had a good time playing it this evening

just 1 question, whats the map on the website for?

Mine as well.
And I believe the map's there to provide a nice-looking place to sort out all of the available factions and the regions/parts of the world they occupy. Also, you can click on the faction's crest on the map to get more details from each of them.
