If you want to change your kingdom's colour, you might want to check out TweakMB

However, you cannot change the colour if you have already created your kingdom in your save (same goes for the other factions) and to be honest, black would be a terrible choice when you hover your mouse over to see info on the things on the map (Black will blend right in with the dark grey info windows)
If you want to make your own mod, Morgh's Warband editor will definitely come in handy

This tool make it so much easier to edit factions, troops and items that already exist in the base game, but as far as I know you are on your own for custom scripts, adding custom items etc.
