Changing smoke effects

Users who are viewing this thread

My computer is not the greatest, so it lags terribly with more than 10 muskets firing. Ive installed the low detail smoke and there is still bad fps while shooting.
Ive noticed that the pistols use a completely different smoke effect, and it is much less demanding.

Is there any way i can chage it so all the rifles use the same effects as the pistols?

My laptop isn't the greatest either, and I understand you - having 10+ guys in line firing their muskets at the same time makes my FPS drop to 10 or below whenever I look at the smoke. The good thing is that with the Low Quality Smoke mini-Mod, such smoke vanishes in seconds and I can continue playing without problem.

I had the same issue with smoke in 1805 I, the previous version of this Mod. I played with the particle_systems file, and I succesfuly set the smoke to the lowest graphic quality ever. This is what I did:
  • I looked for the particle_systems .txt file in the 1805 II's file location in the Mount&Blade Module directory
  • Then I searched for the following codes in such file:
psys_pistol_smoke 512 prtcl_dust_a  90 2.500000 0.600000 -0.100000 100.000000 2.500000
0.000000 0.750000  1.000000 0.000000
0.000000 0.700000  1.000000 0.400000
0.000000 0.700000  1.000000 0.400000
0.000000 0.700000  1.000000 0.400000
0.000000 1.500000  0.500000 11.000000
0.100000 0.100000 0.100000  2.000000 2.000000 0.000000  0.100000
0.0 0.0
...and:
psys_musket_smoke 512 prtcl_dust_b  50 5.000000 1.000000 -0.005000 150.000000 5.000000
0.000000 0.750000  1.000000 0.000000
0.000000 0.700000  1.000000 0.400000
0.000000 0.700000  1.000000 0.400000
0.000000 0.700000  1.000000 0.400000

  • I changed all of the numbers in bold to 1

I have to let you know..

1) Again: I messed up with the files mentioned above in the Europe 1805 - I Mod, which is the previous version of this Mod and part of the Age of Blackpower Series. It might not work on this Mod, though.

2) The smoke quality was reduced to the lowest; literally. I had no more lag, but the smoke looked lame, way too much lame.

If you're gonna mess up with the files, make sure you have a backup for every file you're gonna mess up with.

Changing the last number in those two strings to 1 causes the smoke to come out in puffs, lasting a few seconds, like a train. Its hilarious. Ill keep fiddling until I find something that works

Told you
I think it only works if you set them on even numbers. I'm not sure, though; I remember setting them on 30, 150, an such, and the smoke was still heavy. But, well, tis good to know you'll try by yourslef.

I've tampered with the settings but the one thing that remains constant is how long the smoke lingers. I'm trying to get it so that it would last roughly 2 seconds after the shot. Anyone got any hints or know which numbers to tamper with?
