Can't use Longbow

Hello,

My Bow skill is currently 47 (I started a new game after one of the patches.) The Longbow I've got equipped needs a skill of 20, so I should be able to use it. Despite being equipped in my characters inventory, I am unable to physically equip the bow during battles.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this without enabling the cheat menu?

You can't use longbows on horseback and make sure that you equipped arrows in your inventory.

you cant use longbow on horseback you need to dismount first then it will be available

In a related question, do longbows have a greater range than short horse archer bows? Specs don't show that.
