My PC specs
i5 2320 3.0ghz
8gb ram corsair vengeance
gigabyte gtx 960 2gb
....
I like huge battles. Right now i have resolution at 1920x1080, settings at low, with battlesize at 300, so i can play smoothly.
I want tips, what to do in Configure menu and rgl_config, so i can increase it further. Graphics is not really important, just so i can play huge battles.
I think that you can play with the highest settings with your PC and battle size 500 If you like the comfortable playing, then you need to stay at this battle size. It'll be good if you'll keep the "load textures on demand" option on. You can also enable in game option "fast water reflections", because it changes almost nothing and increases performance.
I tried custom batlle 200vs200 men, at very high preset.. no go.
Had 17-19 fps from the start. When they would start smashing each other would be even lower.
Then i changed it back to low preset, and it wasnt much better, 25 fps.(at 1680x1050)
I have Load textures on demand checked, also force single threading.

That's impossible. With GTX 960 G1 Gaming you should have 70+ FPS with very high settings. Maybe it's memory problem. Do you have full of your RAM available?
Memory was up to 3900+ , but not more. I have 8GB Corsair vengeance.
My virtual memory is like this
C: 400-2000 (SSD drive)
D: System managed(HDD drive, Viking Conquest is installed here)
Unless for some reason having it off causes a major problem for some inexplicable reason, always have that off.
With single threading on with a multi-core processor you're unwittingly bottlenecking yourself as it can only use 1 core on the processor for the game.
p.s. Also turn off load textures on demand just to see what happens. Lots of people find it lowers their performance, even on good systems.

If your computer have full 8 gb RAM available, then you shouldn't have this problem. If not, then I don't know how to solve your problem. You should write to technic support.

Mickdick, tried your suggestions. Have a look
Here is with Single threading UNchecked at high
Single threading unchecked plus Load textures unchecked at High( i saw this time ram usage went above 4gb as you can see
as above at low preset
Well, you seem to have gained about 5 fps, at least.
There is no way it's a CPU bottleneck considering how small the increase was.
Your GPU is pretty much god tier and has 2 gigs of dedicated, DDR5 ram, so that cannot be the problem.
I am having trouble figuring out the issue here, system DDR3 ram is more than enough, not to mention you have it in excess. It's probably engine related, it simply cannot perform efficiently under that much stress.
I guess.
I have seen a video where a guy ran I think over 1,000 troops smoothly enough... (about 22 FPS average) Which only makes it more confusing as to why you cannot even run 500 at 60 with your specs, and his specs are identical except he used a GTX 770.
That's probably the problem, as ridiculous as it sounds... It's my conclusion anyways. I'm not academically educated on such matters.
If you don't care for graphics, maybe you should try lower and lower resolutions until you find balance that suits you. That's the only performance sucker left that you can lower really.
p.s. Oh yeah, you're running on DirectX 7 right? If not give it a go. I honestly cannot tell as I haven't played in a while.
I've found that increasing the render_buffer_size seems to help with fps drops (not so sure about average fps though). 384 and 512 should be safe sizes to try.
VC doesnt support dx7. I changed everything to low, except resolution. Even when i changed it to 1280x1024 it was just a little increase.
When i said i dont rly care about graphics, i meant everything except resolution.
I dunno. I really thought i had good enough PC for 500 mens battle. Its not high-end system, but it isnt some low trash either.
I would be happy with 300 battlesize on high preset, but even then i have to turn off grass density, shadows(not that i care about those) etc.
I guess its just a very demanding game. Should buy some i7 + titan
Maybe because this DLC cost 2x more than vanilla Warband? It's only for strong computers that have 64 bit OS, more than 4gb RAM, good GPU and i5 processor. If you don't have computer like that (or better), then you'll have very small amount of FPS and big amount crashes.
MINIMUM:
OS: Windows® XP, Vista, Windows 7
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz or AMD 2.5 GHz
Memory: 3GB RAM
Hard Disk Space: 1.8 GB available space
Video Card: Graphics card (256 MB+) (does not support integrated graphics card)
DirectX®: Directx 9.0c
Sound: Direct X-compatible sound card
------
Your game should run with this, but you mabe need to configurate (rgl_config.txt).
With strong pc you will be able to run battlefields with more men. Some players is playing with 700 battlesize.
Hi guys,
We will reconsider to make possible to set <150 battlesize.
Regarding the the DLC demands. Indeed, is much more demanding than the native, it also have much better appearance, much more features and is years more modern than the engine.
Another point I would like to ask is about the fps. What would you consider as "normal" fps for a game like this one?
In modern first person shooters like call of duty, in PC, is 60fps. In strategy games is 30fps. And in consoles (even first person shooters) is 30fps.
