I enlisted my men in a Swadian lords army and he only had like 150 and I had 100 or so. So we started out at about 250-300. Another Swadian lord ran around with our army and all of a sudden his army size doubled after every battle. Fighting just 100 - 150 sized lords. After about 6 fights we were going into battle with 6000 troops! 
No other lords were joining him either.
We were around 700-800 then next fight we entered it said around 1600. Then 3200. Then 6000 when I abandoned army this lord had 6000 troops and the original lord I join was back to around 130.
