Why is automatch fashionable?

I don't understand this trend of using automatch as your primary way of getting players into a server, you lose all sense of community by doing it. Insurgency Sandstorm opted to use it in the same way and it's horrible, after the round ends you're kicked out and thrown in with another group of randoms.

That's another issue I omit from my post due to length. Hopefully dedicated private servers will fix this but the only way the current match making would feel meaningful and add depth to community would be for ranked matches with a ladder-board. Beyond that, it is soulless and empty. I would be happy with ranked match making for 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 5v5, 10v10 and then have private servers for the community where players persist after each round.
