With Killing Walter Marc Streitenfeld has composed a truly excellent song for Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. The overall atmosphere is marvellously grave and completed by the crying violin.
Thank you Fródwine, I quite enjoyed that! Might have to give that OST a look after all. The movie was so horrible, I didn't pay that much attention to the score at all.

Although he beats the setting of Vikingr by some three hundred years, I'm fairly confident most people in here could grow to love Guillaume de Machaut as well. He was a 14th century French composer whose most famous work was the "Messe de Nostre Dame". Don't let the liturgical character of his motets scare you off however, most of his ballads are quite festive and enthusing!
Some examples: Je vivroie liement, J'aime sans penser.

Also, early Italian Renaissance music! This ballad has pulled me into a pleasant demi-trance more often than I care to count.

Maybe a little controversial but I really recommend listening to African Drums Music while playing Vikingr. Gives quite a dramatic and haunting yet pleasant soundtrack to the game.

To alternate sometimes I might switch to Einherjer, something like Alu Alu Laukar which is totally awesome

Will also recommend Altaar with self their titled album for some atmosphere

Been a while since anyone has put anything here,so here are three folk-songs in Faroese most from the 19th century but based on older stories
One about Ólafr Tryggvasson building his ship Ormurinn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bts_v9mqv3g
Another one called Runtsivalstríðið or the song of roland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg_418mWCJE&feature=related
and one used by the band Tyr but in its traditional singing about the smith Regin, Regin Smiður: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsFdpyX4mb0&feature=related

Wardruna. Definitely.

If there were any really good Kalevala bands (No metal, just Kalevala with kantele and stuff, singing the songs) That'd be it for me.
But...

Kven skal synge meg
i daudsvevna slynge meg
når eg helvegen går
og dei spora eg trår
er kalde så kalde...

Beautiful.

I bring music for the people, enjoy!
