Hello,

Me and Lamhban practice reenactment in France and Poland.
(see here for those who don't know this hobby : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zGjex6qDtM )

We live in France and we don't have access to many historical documents from Eastern Europe. We are found of slavic helmets like this one in M&B (see screenshots & photos) :

Do you know if the mount and blade set is historically accurate. What do you advice for optimum protection during mellee fight with this kind of helmet ?

Thanks for your advices

Well I would not call those helmets Slavic. Helmets like this were in use in medieval Russian states and show influence of Scandinavian people as well as Asian influences -various steppe peoples and Persia. Other Slavic people however were using different helmets.

As for how much accurate are Warband "Vaegir" helmets (that is what you are speaking about right?) I don't know but they are probably based on Western literature about subject, like for example some Osprey publications and should be close to some real examples.

[EDIT:] here is reenactment group from S. Petersburg, you might have more luck with info there:

Here you can find some information you need. I've checked a few of those pics and they are pretty accurate.

That link is about "early" Slavic warfare, which means 5-9 century and some of those pictures are pretty inaccurate as far as i can tell.

He hasn't said which period helmets he was looking for. And those pictures represent some Polish, Slovak, Czech and Hungarian equipment pretty nicely.

Those helmets are from later period (I would say 8. ct and later) and are more or less exclusively Russian. Poles, Czechs, Slovaks and Magyars were not using this type of helmets (perhaps with some exception of North-Eastern Poland).

If you're doing reenectment, I don't recommend doing it based on a video game. Vaegir helmets are close to some real helmet findigs, but not entirely like them. For Rus helmets, I recommend checking this insted.

What types of helmets do you mean?

The ones which locan had posted at the beginning of his post. Western and Southern Slavs were using types of helmets which were in use in Western and Southern Europe at the time. Quit different from those used by Russ.
