Rescue lord mission: Quest Cancelled bug

So I got this mission from a lady to rescue her husband from prison. I leave town and go to my boat in order to travel to where he is imprisoned as I have to cross the sea to get there.
Immediately after I start sailing, the mission will cancel.
I figure the lord got ransomed or escaped on his own, but I want to do the mission, so I reload my save from right before, and set sail again. However the same happens.
And again and again, over and over.
So I try to not go to my ship and instead stay on land and mock about, nothing happens, the mission is still active. Until I go to my boat and try to sail there again: Mission Cancelled.

So instead of reloading my save, now I let the mission stay cancelled, and I go back to the lady and I ask her again if she needs any help. She does. You see, her husband is captured and imprisoned by the enemy and needs my help. If only I could rescue him she would be very grateful. So I take the mission again. And again I disembark to to save him.
And again the mission cancels!

Didn't tamper with any game-files. Only used cheat menu to get troll armour and Thor's Hammer and boots.

Thanks. I was in the process of adding that info.
The rgl_log doesn't seem to show anything but I copied it from after restarting my game, reloading my save and then triggering the bug again. I copied all of it.

5) Sandbox campaign, I was in Scuin, getting the mission to rescue a lord, then I wanted to sail from Dun Breatann to Rath Celtair to complete the mission.

Noteworthy: If I go to the port and pay to be transported by ferry to Rath Celtair instead of sailing there, then the mission doesn't get cancelled. But that's a really tedious and impractical workaround.
 
Hmm.
I restarted my game again today. Same save, same everything. I was planning to either work around the issue by booking a passage on a ferry or try by sailing a short distance, saving, sailing a short distance, saving and so on, so on.
However, I don't seem to have the issue anymore. Mission doesn't get cancelled when I start sailing anymore. Will update if it comes back. I haven't sailed far yet.

EDIT:
I spoke too soon!

I got about  a quarter of the way there, got attacked by raiders in the sea, defeated them, saved, and now if I try to move my ship in any direction the mission will instantly cancel.
 
as a test, if you want to try it, you could enable edit mode (game launcher) and teleport there (ctrl+click), so you don't need to use a ship. To check if the mission works this way.

devs may take some time to reply, and patches to the game are rare now, so it could take a few weeks/months for a fix (if they discover a bug). Last update was 5 months ago.

It is definitely connected to being at sea in my own ship. I was able to cross the sea in the end by sailing and saving the game every 3 seconds and then reloading the save every time the mission got cancelled.
It took me about 30 minutes to sail from Dun Breatann to Rath Celair this way. After disembarking from my ship close to Rath Celtair I was able to move around on land in Ireland without issue and I was able to travel the last bit of journey to Rath Celtair and free the prisoner and complete the mission.
When sailing back to Scotland to talk to the lady giving the mission I was almost surprised that sailing worked fine now that the mission was completed and only needed confirmation from the lady. I could sail at sea without any issue then.
 
Thank you for the response. I hope my report and provided files were enough to reproduce the bug. 
I should also add that I have since done a couple more rescue missions that similarly required crossing the sea, fortunately without encountering the same bug. Those were however not given by the same lady and I believe that the other missions that required crossing the sea were given in towns that had docks, unlike Scuin which is inland. I don't know if this is consequential.
 
So, just to add some more context to this bug, I can report that it happened again just now.
I've done like 3-4 rescue missions since last with no issues occurring. But suddenly it happened again.

I thought that maybe the mission failure was connected to wether or not it was taken in a town with a dock, but that is not the case. I was able to take a mission in Caer Liguaild (or something) which is by the sea, but is a fort and has no docks.

But when I took a mission from Lincylene fort I got the quest cancelled bug as soon as I got back to my ships. And here the key difference seems to present itself:
When I get the mission, if I go straight back to my boat, wether it is docked up or landed on shore, the mission will be fine and not bugged. If however I don't go straight back to the sea, the mission will be bugged as soon as I enter my ship.
In the previously reported case, I had other business to attend to and I took a trip to the lumber yard to buy some timber before embarking on my trip to save the lady's husband. Thus I spent a night on land before setting sail to complete the mission. In this case I travelled almost straight to my boat to complete the mission. However Lincylene, where I got the mission, is on the east coast and my boat was laid up near Caer Meguaild (or something) on the Welsh coast. So I had to travel for a while before getting there and I spent a night or two on land before embarking. This seems to trigger the mission cancelling bug.
