I'd like to see more bandit variety in the game, the one's that already exist give little added flavour from those that were present in warband.

Some ideas I've had.

Runaway slaves
Would be around the Imperial factions, plenty of broken chains present on their persons, armed with pitchforks, mining equipment and the like. Higher tiers would have Die Hards, who have looted patchwork weapons, gladiators and maybe even a women warrior chain like Sword sisters from Warband.

Pirates of the Middle Sea
We have sea raiders on the outer coats but nothing on the middle sea. anywhere along the coasts of the middle sea we could have pirate landings which would include
Oarsmen, lightly armed but numerous, bucaneers with cutlasses and Javelins, Corsairs and pirate captains. When captured these could be upgraded into the non bandit troop type "Carabisian" which were late Roman marine troops.

Amazons
On the North Eastern part of the map we could have units of Amazons, excellent archers and horse archers.

Robber Barons
In the western part of the map there could be robber barons, who would have bands of thugs and brutes with a few Huscarls and a Robber Knight or Baron as the captain.

In the far South we could have invaders based on the Axumite empire raiding into the south of the Aserai.

Just a thought to add more flavour

For an imperial bandit faction there is a lot of inspiration from the Roman Empire, the chain could be something along the lines of

Dispossessed (peasants who have had their land expropriated)
Latrones (Ancient latin term for Bandits)
Bagaudae (Bandit movement from the late Roman Empire)
Foederati Deserters (Imperial allies and axuilliaries who've deserted)
Imperial Deserters (weak version of the Legion)
Rebel Dux/Rebel Comes (An imperial officer who has deserted)

I completely agree, bandits are too generic and with undeveloped characteristics that only increases the insatisfaction to have to farm them over and over the same way. There is no big challenge here in early or late game besides the op rock throwing damage and the number of rocks they throw at you. Adding different behaviours to different kinds/types/factions of bandits, which could vary according to the location and culture, different tatics, aggressiveness, numbers per party, organization both as faction and clan like where diiferent parties could share a common objective, different equipment like shields bows and javis, competition between them, economic objectives and proactive involvement in it... Where are the gangs and the organized crime, that devs talked about??

Two more ideas

An "evil lord" chain to kind of pay tribute to fantasy worls like Conan and Tolkien

They would have
Thralls
Minions
Shadow raiders
Enslavers
Black Riders
And be lead by a Dark Lord

And a religious based faction
Fanatics
Zealots
Devotees
Heretics
Mad Preachers
and be lead by False Prophets
