Is there a mod or is it moddable at all to get command in battles your party initiated as mercenary?
I usually try to help weak factions against snowballing but as mercenary you are very restricted (except perhaps using some "special" tactics/party compositions of the pros, which I don't like) and getting wiped in a battle because of dumb AI is a huge danger. Weak factions have parties with weak troops, but quite often a lot of it. It's mostly these battles where the own faction AI thinks it is superior in numbers and can win, but it is not because the own troops are low tier while the others have lots of T4 and T5. So the AI rushes to sure defeat.
If you could at least order it to keep a defensive position ... Maybe there should be a chance the actual commander listens to your advice as professional mercenary.
