23 million in a country the same size as the U.S. (minus Alaska) which has 315 million. So, less than 10% of the population density.
Obviously it doesn't hold true everywhere, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane have pretty dense populations, but if you live outside the big three you do sort of need to make your own entertainment.
