Just watched a couple episodes and am enjoying it.

The combat is on par with Sword of the Stranger and they reference historical events. (Although there is going to be a supernatural element int the story, Simular to Sword of the Stranger's supernatural element.)

As far as I can gather right now the main samurai are like the peace keepers and are attempting to take down a samurai mafia.

Historically the shinsengumi were basically military police so you're not far off. Is there no romace/female character?

The "protagonist" is a young woman pretending to be a man in order to find her father.

Thus far there has been no reel romance component other than "*blushes* OMG i'm surrounded by boys!"
