SOD Warlords - Voice Acting! *Updated 11/01/2012*

Yeah I think the best approach is to start small, get stuff in and working and new voice stuff can always be revisited at a later date, but let's face it, it is a relatively small part of the warband game, there is plenty of other 'more fun stuff' that you can focus on implementing

Aye, I'm loving the support were getting from everyone, Lib & Ronin have been a massive help right now with some really professional voice work. We also might have 2 other contributors that might be able to help us out. *Posted on the 2nd post.

I have read off some lines, Specifically the following...

Noble Duel Lines

Royalty Duel Lines

Hope it gives you an idea.

Hahaha! It sounds like a character I've heard before. This one sounds like you had to force it. Though some lines were good.

Now this is where your home is. It's perfect, I love it. It sounds very tough and natural.

Still need those voice actors?

I'm a great voice actor, I am getting a new microphone in a few weeks, I can voice pretty much any European accent.

The more the merrier.

Cool, It'll be good if everyone could critique each other. You all can pitch in ideas on how you feel about each faction and how should they sound.

I might be able to help. I have a mic of unknown quality and a decent voice. I could do a battle cry, maybe, to replace the current "FAIL". Oh come on, I can't be the only one to hear it

My mic sucks

Anything you all can produce will be handy, If you all are unsure just send a sample 1st instead of doing a whole set if your unsure of the quality. We could really use sets that we don't have much of so start doing voices of the VIL and ADE factions. Also some generic dialog & voices will be fine too. We still have the native factions to go through.

I'll post some examples from other games soon.

Update:
I want to say thanks to all the current voice actors that have contributed the sweet sounds of there voices to the mod. All of you are working really hard to make your voices sound clear while trying to make each one sound different. Thank you!

Im a sound engineer/designer by trade. I can balance the files appropriately if needed. I have an ftp site. I notice that alot of mods have distorted, poorly balanced vocal lines and sound FX and it can be a bit offputting. Hell I might even just have a go at voicing myself

Jim,

You are a pearl beyond price.  Nothing sounds worse than bad sound.  It takes people out of the mode, because we're so spoiled with the professional audio we hear in movies and TV.  I'll dig my shotgun mike out of storage and put some tracks together.

What format do you want to receive audio in?
What freeware do you recommend to capture it?

Update: I've recorded 60 tracks from the duel selection, 30 as a fop noble, the other 30 for the Khergits. I'm less than in love with the location I did the recordings in, but I'm fairly happy with some of the phrasing. I took some small liberties text with about six of the tracks, in large part because I find it difficult to imagine steppe nomad warlords with a clear grasp of the concept of "douchebag".

It's nice to know listening to Mongolians for a half hour was worth it.  Surprisingly difficult to avoid slipping into a bad Mexican accent when trying to sound Mongolian. Very interesting to see how much of Russian inflection is influenced by Mongol speech.

Which leads us to a giant rat hole of time!  I notice we don't have any Maori factions...  Here's one reason why we should: http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=all+blacks+haka&view=detail&mid=0E93E0F3B9DC79A20F650E93E0F3B9DC79A20F65&first=0&FORM=LKVR3 Haka!

Hahahaha Wtf lol? OH, that gave me an idea, you should add prebattle taunting to armies, they would yell, and mock the other team. i feel it would be a nice touch, if possible.

That is a load of work.  Worth doing, but not half a job to get through. And I just realized that Sirbab already did it. Worth the practice.

I do hope someone can clean up the sound a bit.  I filtered out noise, but I'd like it to sound a touch warmer without the echoes.

I used Audacity 1.3.14-beta for the recording software.  Included in this file is a noise reference that should work for most of the first set of tracks.

The problem now is that I've recorded voice tracks for my favorite faction, but I hate the sound of my recorded voice.  I tried to get it a touch Scottish, but my accent might have wandered around the British Isles a bit. Thanks to Craig Ferguson for a reference source.

If you are recording in an echoey room the best way to get rid of it is to put yourself and you mic under a heavy sheet/cover. That's not a joke.

I recorded an entire audio book under a sheet to get rid of the echo of the room we were using and it worked brilliantly.
