Hehehehe----I loved Tuco, in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...remember??

...but I ADORED this scene (makes u reason on things!  :???: )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSkeQkb8NMo&NR=1&feature=endscreen
It s missing the scene that follows this one, where Tuco tells Blondie how much his brother likes him and all nice things...this scene is incomplete without the next one.

OK! I d like to have u on 1860s Thread as a Gabrilduro s Supporter of the MEXICAN side!!!

Yeaaah like Tuco is the greatest funiest badass of all times!

He is like a bad guy but also a good guy but above else he's sooo sinical and funy

And that is mexican spirit, you can be the ugly but you'll always amile

Nostalgia movie, people don't make any gold pieces like this one nowdays...

Also, you ever saw the movie "The Alamo"? it reflects (at some point) the short conflict between Mexico, Texas & USA.

I have seen both movies of the Alamo (with the same name). The old one, of 1960 (with John Wayne) was rather good IMHO, and the mexicans were portrayed as decent humans too. The newer one, of 2004, I like a lot less; The battles look great, and the Mexican uniforms are splendid, but the guys in them are portrayed as cruel opressors (especially Santa Anna). Also, the final battle makes the Americans win anyway and stuff.

I also did read the book on which the 2004 film was based (or maybe the other way round, not 100% sure about that), and it was clearly a piece of American 'patriotism' and propaganda. I dislike stuff like that a lot anyway, so possibly I'm biased.

Tuco is great, one of my favorite all-time villains.
Shouting to an approaching dusty Yankee column (which he thinks are Confederates): "HURAAH ! Hurrah for the Confederacy! God is with us because he hates the Yanks too! Huraah!"

I agree with u, Joe.
On the whole line.
I loved that part of Old 1960 Movie, in which Texans were taking a break and saying they "did not hate Mexicans, they just HAD to fight them"...
Nevertheless, the new movie was not bad, on other aspects: battle scenes, scenografy...and Davy crockett-
Yep, I HATED him the 1st time I watched that new movie, compared to J.Wayne...but after all, and knowing some things of the REAL Davy...I think the guy plyed his part pretty well.

Hah! And Tuco....that scene makes my son laugh sooo hard ("what is their General's name? Lee! Oh...yess...LEE! Hurra for General LEEE!!). ...Imagine these Yankees !!
...and Clint is not a worse actor when he goes:

I pretty much agree with this. As I said in another topic on this forum, western movies made in the last 20 years or so are clearly missing some details comparing to those made in 1960's. For example, when Yul Brynner lights a match from the heel of his boot in "The Magnificent Seven", or Clint Eastwood's cigar in almost all of his movies and details like that are almost important as the movie plot itself, to conjure up the spirit of the Wild West.
Even if we all know that most of those things are fictional, they still give a dose of charm that I like to see in all western movies.

Not a movie, but for the overall topic of the civil war I'd recommend reading the Starbuck novels by Bernard Cornwell. I really loved the first one, in which was shown how so much of the armies, at least up to the rank of Colonel, was made up of complete amateurs, after two countries with a lack of trained officers had to build up huge armies. Amd everyone who has ever read Cornwell knows the battle scene are great.

CIVIL WAR MOVIES

-THE TWILIGH ZONE: THE PASSERSBY (1961)

-THE ANDERSONVILLE TRIAL (1970)

-GETTYSBURG (Gettysburg-1993)

-RIDE WITH THE DEVIL (1999)

-GODS AND GENERALS (2003)

-AMBROSE BIERCE, CIVIL WAR STORIES (2006)

-AFTERSHOCK: BEYOND THE CIVIL WAR (2006)

Totally agree with your point of view mate

There are a lot of Mexican "series" inspired in the feats & events of this period in history... let me check if they are abaible in englis or at least subtitles, you could get a bigger picture from the time period

Hello guys, and Marry Christmas! I played only one Western mod for M&B but it is closed, so I'll try a mod that is still alive. Downloading it now. Anyway, post here some Western Movies you liked.
I just watched 3:10 to Yuma last evening, it was epic, mainly the ending. What about you?

....added ur post in the "existing" Topic.
Gab
PS....Pls do not open new Topics IF there is already one that has the same subject.

.....seen for the 7th time "Return to Cold Mountain" with my family, 3 days ago....(I read the book, time ago...and I always had a liking for BOTH sides )
That movie made my son a little more "tollerant" for Csa, U know....
First move to change his simple way to look at ACW (CSA were always just the Bad Guys, in his opinion...) was the wanderful Shenandoah, with a great Jimmy Stewart that was a perfect example of a "straight" Southener, that was not for the War, as an example.
Thing is that we tend to always divide wars in good and bad factions.
But both sides did good and bad things, and had some reasons to fight.
Only thing though, is that RICH people make money, out of ALL wars, and poor people just suffer and even...DIE!

...that is why I am more like Nathan, of the Last of The Mohicans when he says:

Hi, watched the first season of Hell on Wheels and thought it was pretty good! Interesting characters and good story. To reply to an earlier post: the Starbuck novels are great, though I don't think Cornwells best, shame he didnt keep the series going.

Is a great show of old revolvers shooting and a great historical picture of the "different" Civil War that was fought more as a guerrilla.
