I am not looking for more faces, please do not submit any more.
Original call for faces below, kept for archival purposes.
Since the troop slots cap was removed, I bet there are many of you just itching to play a campaign with a party of maybe 10-20 NPC sergeants.
My idea is to make a huge bunch of low-level NPCs recruitable from the Zendar tavern (maybe in a separate common room since I'm not sure how many of these twits there will be). Can be done in an hour. Only thing is... since I have absolutely no spare time, I need YOU to help me come up with face codes and background writeups for these guys and gals.
You don't need to know how to mod.
To get a face code:
1. Activate edit mode in Options->Advanced before launching M&B.
2. Go to the face editing screen (either create a new character or press 'C' in an existing game then click "Edit Face")
3. Make a kick-ass face.
4. Press CTRL-E. A button will appear on the upper right corner with some crazy symbols on it. That's the face code. Click on the button.
5. Now the face code is on the clipboard so you can paste it in your post, and depending on how cool your character looks, I might include him/her in this utterly pointless mod.
To do a writeup: Write it in first person. This is what the person will say when you talk to him/her. The more distinctive the better! Remember the NPC is very low level, like Marnid, so don't make them into the Invincible Manslayer of Caledonia or somesuch.

Dedicated playtesting dudes:
HardCode , Tomato, Silverkatana
Features:
Added in v1.6:
- Castle attack and defense missions now have a melee phase inside the castle.
- New parties and more troop types now appear on the map.
Added in v1.4:
- Castle attack and defense missions/minigames. Join Swadians or Vaegir and keep asking for missions until you get it.
Added in v1.3:
- v1.34: Second-last tier of armor is normal (black/plate/ornate/samurai) armor. Final tier of armor upgrades is now reinforced (black/plate/ornate/samurai) armor (special thanks to Silverkatana for telling me how to do this).
- Randomised NPC gear selection now runs the full gamut of medium-heavy armors and helmets. Their final outfit will be coordinated (armor, helmet, and greaves of the same type for each character, but different across characters).
- Added tactical option to enter combat with only blunts (doesn't affect regular troops). Added option to upgrade blunt melee weapons.
- Scale mail armor (by Septa Scarabae) and shiny ornate armor (by me).
- Some new high-level footsoldiers to fight, from the mysterious Awali Empire (you need to have Nadifa in your party to start a fight with them, after that you can dump her and these guys will still fight you).
Added in v1.24:
- You can now order your NPCs (or archer troops) to enter battle without their ranged weapons. Great for switching between cavalry-charge mode and foot-archer mode. Works for all troops and NPCs.
- More money management options, you can give money to NPCs directly now. Some more party-level auto-upgrade setting buttons.
Added in v1.21:
- Added feature for getting your party to appear in battle unmounted even if they own horses that they can ride. Great for infantry / foot archer NPCs who want high map speed but don't want to zoom willy-nilly on the battlefield. Works for all troops and NPCs.
Added in v1.2:
- Customisable equipment auto-upgrade script: NPC heroes will use their own money to buy the kinds of gear that you specify (see notes below).
- Improved money management: Distribute all your money among your NPCs or just grab it all for yourself.
- Improved monetary rewards: Higher level enemies now yield additional gold rewards at the end of the battle, the higher their level the more money you get.
- Selection of weapons from RR_Raptor's weapons pack included.
- Includes Janus' Arena mod.
Added in v1.1:
- All heroes (including Marnid and Borcha) now receive additional weapons proficiencies when they level up. Their proficiencies should now be slightly superior to regular troops of equal level.
- Heroes receive additional money at the end of each battle. Total amount is dependent on number of opponents, and is equally divided among all party members (thanks Janus for the script!)
- Heroes' weapon proficiencies tweaked to be more specialised.
v1.0 Features:
- 21 new level 1 heroes now recruitable at the Four Ways Inn.
- New heroes all have decent low-end weapons, most have low-end horses.
- Khergit and Samurai armors now available in stores (rarer and more expensive than conventional equipment)
- Samurai armor given proper names (strange helm = kabuto, strange armor = yoroi, strange greaves = suneate), and rebalanced to be less uber. Now they are the equivalent of plate mail but a little bit lighter.
- Samurai weapons also given proper names (strange short sword = wakizashi, strange sword = katana, strange great sword = no-dachi)
- Samurai stuff removed from bonus chests, now you have to buy them to get them.
Known issues:
- Game crashes if you try to leave troops with a hero in the wilderness. Known issue in vanilla M&B since v0.731. If anyone knows how to get around this, please send me a PM and I will be eternally grateful.
Auto-upgrade script
- Basically, the new NPCs will buy better (=more expensive) stuff than they've got if they can use it and they have the money, whenever you enter a town. A message will appear indicating what they bought.
- You can select 1-handed+shield, 2-handed, polearms, lance+shield as the class of melee weapon to upgrade.
- You can select bow, crossbow, throwing as the class of ranged weapon to upgrade.
- NPCs can't tell the difference between rusty, balanced, ragged, reinforced, etc. So they WILL buy a new set of lamellar armor even when they've got a thick mail shirt that's potentially better or the same.
- NPCs NEVER sell items (to prevent them accidentally selling that family heirloom watered-steel dagger you gave them for Christmas).
- When switching weapons to upgrade, remember to take away the other stuff that you don't want them to use.
- All new NPCs have armor and horse upgrades turned on by default, plus their favourite melee and/or ranged weapon class. Modify this as you wish via talking to them.
