Savegame transfer utility:
Warning: Make backups of your savegames in a separate directory since they will be overwritten.
Resets all existing savegames to a brand new savegame compatible with v1.6. All Player Character and NPCs' stats and gear remain intact.
Read the download page for usage instructions. Note that in v1.5 NPCs got a substantial stat boost so you're losing out if you transfer characters that are older than v1.5.

Features:
Added in v1.6:
  • Castle attack and defense missions now have a melee phase inside the castle.
  • New parties and more troop types now appear on the map.

Added in v1.4:
  • Castle attack and defense missions/minigames. Join Swadians or Vaegir and keep asking for missions until you get it.

Added in v1.3:
  • v1.34: Second-last tier of armor is normal (black/plate/ornate/samurai) armor. Final tier of armor upgrades is now reinforced (black/plate/ornate/samurai) armor (special thanks to Silverkatana for telling me how to do this).
  • Randomised NPC gear selection now runs the full gamut of medium-heavy armors and helmets. Their final outfit will be coordinated (armor, helmet, and greaves of the same type for each character, but different across characters).
  • Added tactical option to enter combat with only blunts (doesn't affect regular troops). Added option to upgrade blunt melee weapons.
  • Scale mail armor (by Septa Scarabae) and shiny ornate armor (by me).
  • Some new high-level footsoldiers to fight, from the mysterious Awali Empire (you need to have Nadifa in your party to start a fight with them, after that you can dump her and these guys will still fight you).

Added in v1.24:
  • You can now order your NPCs (or archer troops) to enter battle without their ranged weapons. Great for switching between cavalry-charge mode and foot-archer mode. Works for all troops and NPCs.
  • More money management options, you can give money to NPCs directly now. Some more party-level auto-upgrade setting buttons.

Added in v1.21:
  • Added feature for getting your party to appear in battle unmounted even if they own horses that they can ride. Great for infantry / foot archer NPCs who want high map speed but don't want to zoom willy-nilly on the battlefield. Works for all troops and NPCs.

Added in v1.2:
  • Customisable equipment auto-upgrade script: NPC heroes will use their own money to buy the kinds of gear that you specify (see notes below).
  • Improved money management: Distribute all your money among your NPCs or just grab it all for yourself.
  • Improved monetary rewards: Higher level enemies now yield additional gold rewards at the end of the battle, the higher their level the more money you get.
  • Selection of weapons from RR_Raptor's weapons pack included.
  • Includes Janus' Arena mod.

Added in v1.1:
  • All heroes (including Marnid and Borcha) now receive additional weapons proficiencies when they level up. Their proficiencies should now be slightly superior to regular troops of equal level.
  • Heroes receive additional money at the end of each battle. Total amount is dependent on number of opponents, and is equally divided among all party members (thanks Janus for the script!)
  • Heroes' weapon proficiencies tweaked to be more specialised.

v1.0 Features:
  • 21 new level 1 heroes now recruitable at the Four Ways Inn.
  • New heroes all have decent low-end weapons, most have low-end horses.
  • Khergit and Samurai armors now available in stores (rarer and more expensive than conventional equipment)
  • Samurai armor given proper names (strange helm = kabuto, strange armor = yoroi, strange greaves = suneate), and rebalanced to be less uber. Now they are the equivalent of plate mail but a little bit lighter.
  • Samurai weapons also given proper names (strange short sword = wakizashi, strange sword = katana, strange great sword = no-dachi)
  • Samurai stuff removed from bonus chests, now you have to buy them to get them.

Known issues:
  • Game crashes if you try to leave troops with a hero in the wilderness. Known issue in vanilla M&B since v0.731. If anyone knows how to get around this, please send me a PM and I will be eternally grateful.

Auto-upgrade script
  • Basically, the new NPCs will buy better (=more expensive) stuff than they've got if they can use it and they have the money, whenever you enter a town. A message will appear indicating what they bought.
  • You can select 1-handed+shield, 2-handed, polearms, lance+shield as the class of melee weapon to upgrade.
  • You can select bow, crossbow, throwing as the class of ranged weapon to upgrade.
  • NPCs can't tell the difference between rusty, balanced, ragged, reinforced, etc. So they WILL buy a new set of lamellar armor even when they've got a thick mail shirt that's potentially better or the same.
  • NPCs NEVER sell items (to prevent them accidentally selling that family heirloom watered-steel dagger you gave them for Christmas).
  • When switching weapons to upgrade, remember to take away the other stuff that you don't want them to use.
  • All new NPCs have armor and horse upgrades turned on by default, plus their favourite melee and/or ranged weapon class. Modify this as you wish via talking to them.

Many, many thanks to all who submitted faces and stories! This is more your mod than mine.

I am not looking for more faces, please do not submit any more.

Original call for faces below, kept for archival purposes.

Since the troop slots cap was removed, I bet there are many of you just itching to play a campaign with a party of maybe 10-20 NPC sergeants.

My idea is to make a huge bunch of low-level NPCs recruitable from the Zendar tavern (maybe in a separate common room since I'm not sure how many of these twits there will be). Can be done in an hour. Only thing is... since I have absolutely no spare time, I need YOU to help me come up with face codes and background writeups for these guys and gals.

You don't need to know how to mod.

To get a face code:

1. Activate edit mode in Options->Advanced before launching M&B.
2. Go to the face editing screen (either create a new character or press 'C' in an existing game then click "Edit Face")
3. Make a kick-ass face.
4. Press CTRL-E. A button will appear on the upper right corner with some crazy symbols on it. That's the face code. Click on the button.
5. Now the face code is on the clipboard so you can paste it in your post, and depending on how cool your character looks, I might include him/her in this utterly pointless mod.

To do a writeup: Write it in first person. This is what the person will say when you talk to him/her. The more distinctive the better! Remember the NPC is very low level, like Marnid, so don't make them into the Invincible Manslayer of Caledonia or somesuch.

Sword in the Stone much?  Bad attempt.

Edit:  Wait I forgot you need a writeup...........lemme think.

Edit:  Hello, my name is Kay.  I've come to Calradia in search of new adventure, and perhaps glory.  While not the strongest in battle, I'm a fairly good shot with a bow, and a strong runner.  I'm also damn good wth a mug, stool, and table.  I'm looking for a captain to show me the lands, and guide me to triumph in the face of danger.  What do you say?

0x000000000000428901e02df6d7a9c4a0

His name is Olaf the barbarian

dialogue:

Olaf: Bugger off lad, can't you see I'm getting rat-arsed here?
Player: Your a butch chap aren't you? I'm looking for a muscle bound man to join me.
Olaf:I'll join you boy, but only if you give me a decent axe, I broke mine over the last bastard that took the piss out of my appearance. Also i'll need a barrel of beer, for medicinal purposes, it's worthwile, I knocked out a party of 18 mountain bandits with no weapons and only using my right hand.
Player: Here you go then, now get your arse out that door.

troop lose item axe, troop lose item ale etc.

Good to see you back with us fisheye.

Nice... I like Sir Kay, he's such an arsehole.

I like Olaf too... but I think I'll skip the axe treasure-hunt, hate that stuff. I bet a muscle-man like him will join you just for a pint of beer (50 dinars).

Righto skip the axe. He is now a brute that knocks people unconscious with his bare knuckle boxing talents.

Ok i'll take a shot...

a wise samurai:

should be 00000000001093c901f8283f224c3c83
text
wise samurai:   Hello,[player_name],im am an old samurai ,I come from afar ,when I was young i traveled alot to this area, when finaly i dicided to stay..however in my old days I would love a new adventure...
Player: I cannot carry a burden ,old man ,what qualities do you posses?!
wise samurai : let my old aperance not fool you ! being a True warrior is inside...I can take care of the army and am a very apreciated rider in my country..though in battle I am not as good anymore as before......
player: Very well ,you can join me, if you want.
wise samurai: however ..I would be willing to join you if only i had my samurai armor from my old days.....([-*maybe*-] I think I lost it somewhere in a town not too far from here)
Player: - forget it! -/or/ -here you go --> player_name loses samurai armor+old samurai has joined your party!

THis man has a very great leadership bonus, and high intelligence. his fighting is rather lame though....
he has good riding ,and posseses a spirited hunter.

giving him other samurai outfit gives him an extra big bonus (if that is scriptable though )
other than that nothing special

(btw this would be great too let people know there is samurai armor in the game, and let them search for it..)

edit: i put 'wise samurai' cuz i have not really a name for him..)
edit2 : sorry for all the typos...its getting  late (well accualy its getting early..)

                          Lyothas
f748ac63.jpg

Lyothas: Ah, [Player Name] is it? Pleasure meeting you, my name's Lyothas. Did you need something?

Player: Yes, a worthy asset to my growing army. Interested?

Lyothas: Well you certainly get to the point. I happen to be very interested, the arena holds no more challenge for me. Im sure with the times as they are, we could come upon much finer fights and foes than the confines of Zendar hold.

Player: Im happy to have you oblige.

Lyothas: My skill with a two-handed blade is unmatched, and Im quite fast on my feet, though I can take a hit quite well. You wont regret this decision...  captain.

Im feeling bastard sword, and some form of medium armor. Lamellar or some form of chain fit quite nicely.

Baldilocks. (um. you can choose the name )

Code: 0x000000000008000001d56ed6db0d0d78

Player: Whoa. What happened to your hair?
Baldy: I cut it all off because i wanted to look like a girl and fight in the army. Back then i didn't realize girls were allowed into the army anyway, i mean look at those refugees. Unfortunately.. it hasn't grown back since.
Player: Hmmm. I'm sorry about that. Hey listen, if i could get a hat or helmet for you to cover your head with, would you join my party? we could use a good soldier.
Baldy: Okay, but it has to be a felt hat.
Player: Consider it done. Be back in a second.

Hehe.. cant get over that name.

She is Jessie, Mean ***** of the West. (possible lesbian)

Jess: The hell do you want? What reason could you possibly have to disturb me from my ale-drinking?
Player: Uhh.... you're not very ladylike.
Jess: Yeah? Too bad. Now what the hell do you want?
Player: (1.)Well, I was looking for a valuable companion in battle... (2.)Nothing important, sorry to disturb.
Jess: (1.)You've found one, Jessie. The men call me the "Mean ***** of the West". (2.) *grunt*
Player: Really? You're going to join me?
Jess: Hahahaha, not yet I'm not! Fight me in the arena and we'll talk.
Player: (1.)You're on. (2.) No... no.... that's, um, that's okay...
Jess: (2.) *****!

(Initiate 1-on-1 arena fight)

Shond

0x00000000000c024101e1b2d872b2c3c5

Shond: Hello.
Player: a) Hello to you too. b) You look like you're an adventurer of some kind. Am I right?
Shond: b) I guess you could say so. My father was a merchant in Geroia, and he put me to the school so I'd learn to read and write.
Player: What brings you to Zendar then? You could be a merchant, priest or a writer.
Shond: Well it happens to be that I'm not the smartest person in the world, and couldn't learn to read. So I took a ship to get overseas and ended here.
Player: I'm raising an army. Would you follow me?
Shond: Why sure, but I can't march in these shoes I got. If you could get me a pair of leather boots, I'd be glad to follow you.
Player: a) Sure, have these. b) Nevermind.

As for equipment, I think he should have a leather jerkin and wrapping boots/hose by default. And an arming sword or normal sword as a weapon. No horse as he came by sea.

Skills: Not a very skilled fighter, and absolutely crappy stats in intelligence. Maybe 1 trading.

EDIT: Yeah well, a writeup:

I'm Shond. I come from Geroia, but that's not a thing of big importance since I'm not planning to go back there. I might not be too bright nor am I a great fighter, but if you take me to your party, I'll be the most loyal companion you'll find, and I might help you with the art of trading.

Face code: 0x000000000004000101c3402490212651

Name: Anna

anna%20face.jpg

Player: You don't look much like a fighter. Who are you?
Anna: My new name is Anna.
Player: "New name"? What, you join a cult or somethin'?
Anna: Um, ha, no. I ran away from home, and if I started telling people my real name, my family would find me.
Player: ...
Anna: You see, my family is of a very ancient noble lineage, but I'm tired of always acting like a proper lady. I want exitement, adventure, I want to play Storymod and join the Dark Knights! I want...
Player: Hold it right there. Do you mean to tell me, you have zero experience? What kind of skills do you have, besides curtsying and using the right fork?
Anna: Well, I can ride a horse, and I'm pretty good with a bow and arrow... all noble girls learn those things. [show stat screen]

For inventory, I think she should start out with a low-end bow and a large bag of arrows, the green dress and leather boots. Dunno if she should have a horse or not. Probably should, a courser maybe.
Riding skill maybe 4, power draw 2 or 3, bow skill 120 or 140 or so. The rest is up to you.

Bartholomew  (or Bart if you prefer)

bart.jpg

0x00000000000c718501fb4cc4a28db31b

Born and raised in Calradia. Zendar, in fact. I don't like these outsiders comin' in and I've a mind to show em what's what. You don't like it? Too bad, I don't like you. In fact, the only person I do like is me. If I'm gonna join up with you, beleive me, it's not because I like you or admire your bravery or any of that pansy crap. It's because I want to kick somebody's ass! And you look like you might be able to show me where to do so. Stand back and let me take care of em, will ya?

Bartholomew: You're not from around here, are you?

Player: No, are you?

Bartholomew: That I am. And I can tell allready, you didn't come to see the sights, did you?

Player: Well, no. I came to earn a living, actually. What's your name?

Bartholomew: Bart. Yours?

Player: That'd be short for Bartholomew, I assume? I'm [insert name].

Bartholomew: No, just Bart. Bart, as in Bart. Don't call me Bartholomew. So, how do you propose to earn a living here in Calradia?

Player: a) I'm a trader. b) Why, bashing skulls in of course!

Bartholomew: a) Bah! Tradin'. Good day. (end conversation) b) Har, that's what I like to hear! Are ya lookin' for anyone to join in this skull bashing with you?

Player: a) I am, actually. Do you know anyone? b) Not at the moment, no.

Bartholomew: a) Why, old Bart of course! I'd be glad to join you if you'd take me. Don't like none of this sittin' around when there's thieves and bandits about, why, even outsiders comin' in thinkin Calradia is all theirs! 'Sides you, of course. You seem ok. So whaddya say? b) Well, If you need anyone, I'm here. (end conversation)

Player: a) Sure, I'll take you! [bart joins party] b) No, thanks. I'll keep you in mind though.

Bartholomew: a) Excellent, when do we begin? (end conversation) b) Hmph. (end conversation)

Bart should start with some kind of mace, a big blunt weapon or something. I realize he has a sword in the pics but that's just what he started with :p Not sure that he should necessarily have any armor to begin with, but a gambeson or something perhaps. Maybe padded leather if armor. Also he should have a hunting bow. He hunts :p And some arrows to go with it, of course. Probably a low quality shield as well.

[edit] as far as stats go, give him high agility, medium strength, somewhat low intelligence (but not too low) and medium-ish charisma. High meaning high for the starting stats, not like 20 or something :p Maybe like 9 or 10. He should have a bit into athletics. A bit into power draw and archery, and a bit into one handed or two handed (depends on if you want to start him with a 2 handed blunt or one handed and shield).

this is a great idea. i thought of it myself, but didn't think to post it here. good characters people. my only problem is that most of them are too similar. but it's still a good start. it reminds me a bit of mag7. someone oughtta put this tigether as a mod, so the noobs and the lazy people (like me lol) don't have to do it themselves. i suppose i could do it, because i have a lot of time on my hands. i just can't mod for my life. i'll give it a shot sometime today.

Behrtric

Behrtric:  There, there, it's all right

Player:  Uh, thanks, but I'm fine.

Behrtric:  I wasn't talking to you, ignorant swineherd!

Player: Then who were you talking to?

Behrtric: Boo, my dear miniature giant war hamster, you uncouth brigand!

Player:  A war hamster?  That's...nice.  Have you any experience with war, yourself?

Behrtric:  Can you not see that I am a beserker of the Talorc clan, greatest warriors in the north?

Player:  1) Ah yes, silly me.  It is obvious you are a member of that distinguished group.  2) No, you're a pathetic loon who talks to hamsters.  3)  The Talorcs?  Please.  My mother could beat your chieftan.

Behrtric: 1) I am glad you see it.  My people have long fought in the north to protect their home and clan, and I am now on my journey to become a beserker.  I must prove that I am worthy of the honor of being proclaimed a Talorc Beserker, and can uphold the greatness of the tribe, and defend my hearth.
2, 3)  Filthy coward!  Go for the eyes Boo, go for the eyes! [End Conversation]

Player:  I could use a strong man such as yourself.  Would you care to join me on my adventures?  You could prove yourself a beserker.

Behrtirc:  Do your adventures involve breaking spines and taking skulls for use as bowls for headsoup?

Player:  1)  Yes  2) No

Behrtric: 1)  Then Boo says yes, and I agree!  We will come with you. [Joins Party]  2)  Gah!  Then how am I supposed to earn the respect of my clan?  Boo advises me that I cannot join you. [End Conversation].

Behrtric has above average strength and agility, points in powerstrike, ironskin, and athletics.  He has a (rusty or chipped perhaps) two handed sword of some sort, and has little armor, perhaps no shirt at all.

face key: 00000000000c42e001d36916ebae3afc

EDIT: If possible, a small icon of a hamster (a unique hamster item) should be made and put in Behrtric's inventory, with an absolutely rediculous price so the player can never take it.  I could make this if you want.
