Greetings Taleworlds,

Today marks the initiation of the second Warband Nations Cup. The next month or so will be given, for captains to be appointed, teams to be picked and preparations to be made. The Nations Cup is different to other tournaments because rather than playing with your clanmates, or in public servers, you will fight alongside your countrymen, in an epic competition to decide which nation will reign truimphant.

This will be a knockout tournament, with initial group stages, much like the Football (or soccer) World Cup. The exact details of the bracket will be outlined, when the tournament starts, as it depends on the number of teams. The prepration stages of the tournament will, and the fighting will begin, on 16th of March, in 5 weeks.

If you wish to play in the tournament, you can wait for your team to be appointed captain and then apply in the respective thread or apply for captaincy here.

Any further questions, queries or suggestions go here. Now, to arms!

The first matter, in organising a nations cup team, is picking a captain. The captain does not need to be the best player, nor the leader in battle. The captain's key responsibilities will be to pick the team, organise the team, arrange matches and handle disputes. This requires an active, sensible and ideally, well connected member.

If a team has multiple applicants, they can make a decision amongst themselves, as to who becomes the captain or let the event admins decide.

All Rules are subject to change but every change will be posted in this thread, and kept in the changelog below.

Team Regulations:
  • The deadline for teams will be 16/03/2011. Apply for captaincy and check your team information here.
  • Teams must be made up of players from one nation, where possible. In extenuating circumstances, where a nation is having trouble finding enough players, on it's own, the captain should approach an event admin about merging with another nation.
  • Each team should consist of a minimum of 12 players and a maximum of 16. Matches will be 8 vs 8 (minimum , and more if both teams agree).
  • Since this is a nations cup, and not a clan competition, teams should include members from different clans. In some cases, where the majority of players from a country are in the same clan, it's understandable that complying to this rule might not be possible. In which case, exceptions will be made, based on judgement.
  • Teams should be finalised by the submission deadline.
  • Substitutions to the player roster may take place only on the designated days shown here, marked in green.
  • A maximum of 5 substitutions to the player roster may be made, by any given team, throughout the entirity of the tournament. It is recommended that these are used to replace inactive players, rather than underperforming ones. This, however, is at the discretion of the team captain.
  • The captain will be responsible for picking the team, organising the team, arranging matches and handling disputes.

Match Rules:
  • Combat Speed: Medium, Friendly Fire: 100% (melee and ranged), Round Duration: 6 minutes, Game type: Battle, Gold: All set to 100%, Respawn Time : 8 sec , Spectator Settings: Locked to team members view. No bots and no polls.
  • Matches will be 20 rounds long, played over two maps. Each map will be 10 rounds, with teams and Factions swapping at a restart, after 5 rounds.
  • Rounds resulting in a draw will count as normal, with no points awarded to either team.
  • Matches will be 8 a side(more if both teams agree), with no class or equipment restrictions
  • Teams may agree to play the full match on one server, or they may with to change servers at some point. If a server cannot be agreed upon, for a match, approach one of the event admins, for a resolution. Always decide on servers and test them, well in advance of the match. This will avoid complaints and problems, when it comes to playing.
  • Servers outside of the EU may be permitted, for matches involving USA, Canada and Turkey. For these teams, an event admin will be on hand to decide which servers are used, on a case by case basis.
  • Maps/factions will be randomly generated, from the list of included maps and factions. Picked by the event admins. The same map will not come up twice, in a match however there are no restrictions on faction occurrence (i.e. the same faction could come up against itself).
  • The winner will be the team with the most rounds won, at the end of the match.
  • Substitutes are only allowed at the spawn and faction switch, the map change and at the start of sudden death. Teams are allowed to have players rejoin, if they disconnect; however if this is done to excess and teams are deemed to be exploiting the money system, they will face penalties. However If one player of one team crash and is not able to connect back before the end of that round , that team will be able to substitute him until the player that crashed  come back .
  • In the knockout stages: If the match ends in an overall draw, a third map will be played. If needs be, this can be played at a later date but it should be played at the time. If there is still no winner, after the third map, it will be replayed until there is.
In the group stages: If the match ends in an overall draw, then it will be considered a tie and both teams will get 1 point.
  • Each map must be reset, after 5 rounds, when the teams switch.
  • Teams may agree to play without a referee. In that case, they can play whenever. If teams wish to play with a referee, they should request one in the appropriate thread. A referee must be contacted to attend the semi-finals, third-place playoff and final matches.
  • No glitches. On the whole, if you think it might be a glitch, don't do it. This thread has some more pointers - http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,143760.0.html
  • If a team cannot make 8 players, at the agreed match time, they must play on regardless. It is up to the other team to decide if they want to postpone the match.
  • In matches that are being recorded, spectators are allowed. However, all spectators must leave at the start of each new map or spawn change, and not rejoin the server until a minute later. Refusing to leave or rejoining too early will result in a kick.

Tournament Rules:
  • The competition will be made up of one or two group stages (depending on numbers) followed by a knockout stage, similar to the football world cup.
  • A thread will be posted, for every match but team captains will still be responsible for arranging match times and servers, as well as arranging for referees to attend.
  • The winners of the tournament will be the team that progresses to the Grand Final, and triumphs over their opponents
  • The event admins will have the final say. If a dispute does not fall in your favour or you are unhappy with a decision, you must accept it.
  • Any suspected breach of the Team Regulations, Tournament or Match Rules should be met with immediate confrontation and should be reported to an event admin, as soon as possible, preferably by your team captain. Any team that keeps quiet about friendly fire being set to the wrong percentage (for example), and then complains after they lose, will have their protests ignored.
  • Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse.
  • All map and faction choices will be randomly generated, along with initial groupings. After the initial grouping, there will be no random fixtures, as a bracket will be made up.
  • In the group stages, teams will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss.
  • The first four teams will progress, from each of the three initial groups. Group placings will be based firstly on points and then by round difference, so fight for every round as it will all count.
  • The first two teams will progress, from each of the four second-stage groups. Group placings will be based firstly on points and then by round difference, so fight for every round as it will all count.
  • If teams want to play a match, after a deadline, for whatever reason, they must request this permission from an event admin.
