Offiziere (Officers) (3)
Hauptmann Trenck - Ulf
Name: Erich Alfred von der Trenck, "Trenck"
Gender: Male
Date of Birth: May 27th, 1911 (30)
Nationality: Austrian
Rank: Hauptmann (Captain)
Appearance: Trenck has short-cut black hair and an unkempt beard. A decidedly average man in appearance, he stands at 180 cm and weighs around 75 kg. His blue eyes are filled with mirth, while a small cut evident near his right eye serves as a constant reminder of a close call during the Invasion of Poland. He is an avid outdoorsman and has the athletic build to match, along with an endurance that stands out even among the elite soldiers of the Brandenburgers.
Personality: Trenck is an easy-going man outside of battle and unlike a number of his contemporaries he does his best to avoid needless ceremony. Social by nature, he is likely to be found conversing with his unit in between battle or grabbing a beer in a rowdy pub with other soldiers while on leave.
Iron-willed, Trenck is a skilled commander and has an ability to keep his men going even in the darkest of times. He has high expectations of himself and those under his command and although he is not unreasonable he has little tolerance for conduct that does not befit an elite soldier of the Wehrmacht.
Biography: Erich Alfred von der Trenck was born in Vienna, Austria on May 27, 1911 into a prominent Austrian aristocratic family. His father was Karl Johannes von der Trenck and his mother was Anna Maria zu Schwarzenberg. He had two younger siblings, a sister, Sophia and a brother, Thomas. The elder von der Trenck was a civil servant of the Austro-Hungarian Foreign Service stationed in Berlin and the family remained there until the end of the Great War in 1918.
Following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, family returned to Austria and settled in Vienna. Erich attended the Akademisches Gymnasium and graduated at the top of his class, earning top marks in the physical sciences. Contrary to the wishes of his parents, von der Trenck eschewed a career as a civil servant and instead enlisted in the Austrian army in 1930.
Trenck began his service with the 5th Division of the Austrian Army until the Anschluss in 1938 when the 7th Division became a part of the 3 Gebirgs-Division (3rd Mountain Division). A promising officer candidate, he rose through the ranks quickly and held the position of Unteroffizier before he was transferred to the Brandenburgers at the recommendation of his commanding officer. Completing his training, von der Trenck was cleared for active duty with the unit just before the outbreak of hostilities.
Trenck participated in operations with the regiment during the Invasions of Poland, France and the Low Countries. Amassing an impressive list of victories, he earned a large number of commendations and secured a reputation within the Regiment Brandenburg as a skilled soldier. Reportedly, von der Trenck even received a Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves from the Führer himself in 1940, for leading his men in the daring capture of several vital bridges in Rotterdam during Fall Gelb.
Surprisingly, for an aristocratic Wehrmacht officer, von der Trenck claims to have frequently visited Eastern Europe before the war and speaks both Polish and Russian fluently. Unmarried, he is reputed to have one daughter, the product of a short-lived affair with a Polish aristocrat.

Feldwebel Hardijzer - Venerable F. Sheep
Name: Willem Albertus Hardijzer
Gender: Male
Age: 7th November, 1907 (34)
Nationality: Dutch
Rank: Feldwebel
Appearance: 1.80m, lanky build and a long, gaunt face. Weighs around 70kg. Short/half-short dark hair with buzzed sides and dark brown eyes. Shaven, except for a well-kept moustache. Light wrinkles on his forehead and the corners of his eyes. Frowns a lot. Prefers to wear a beret over a helmet. Usually seen smoking cigarettes.
Personality: Has a passion for his job as explosives/demolition expert. A snarky and sarcastic joker, most of the time. Stays cool under pressure (mostly so around explosives, less so under gunfire). He enjoys opera and theatre. Smokes. Has no close family, lived with relatives. Willem is not married, and isn't a smooth talker by any means.
Biography: Willem was born in the Netherlands - in a mixed German and Dutch family - but spent most of his life in eastern Germany. He speaks German and Dutch fluently, knows English and has taken courses in Russian.
Willem's father died fighting on the German side in the Great War. His mother passed away shortly after. Willem lived with family and started working in construction. He took courses in explosives demolition and gained a passion for his job. An accident in 1933 with the demolition of an apartment block cost him his career. With the increased (secret) recruitment for the Reichswehr after Hitler became Chancellor of Germany, he decided to enlist. When he joined the Reichswehr in 1933, his skill with explosives was recognised and he took courses in army explosives demolition and bomb disposal. He became a handy shot at short ranges with submachine guns, but not a great rifle marksman. He went through NCO courses in 1936 and attained the rank of Unterfeldwebel. In early 1938 he was promoted to Feldwebel.
Willem participated in the invasion of Poland but did not get into any serious action. His work was mostly behind friendly front lines, cleaning up after the main fighting was done. He heard about the Brandenburgers having operated in the area in 1939, when recruitment for the Brandenburgers picked up rapidly, and requested a transfer to the unit, believing his demolition and explosives skills would be put to better use in sabotage (and also desiring a more active role in the war). Willem's transfer was put through and accepted, and he joined the unit on the 14th of November 1939. Willem participated in operations, including Fall Gelb, in the Netherlands, Belgium and France.

Obergefreiter Joseph Steinhoff - Rallix
Name: Josef Steinhoff
Gender: Male
Date of Birth: 22 September, 1920 (21)
Nationality: Sudetendeutsche
Rank: Obergefreiter
Appearance: 6'2, 75kg(165lb), Blond-brown haired. A picture speaks a thousand words, so I'll just use screenshots from a Vikingr face. His build is suitable to a runner or swimmer.
Personality: He is calm and cool even under much stress. He has a habit of speaking with few words when possible. He likes working with others, and is able to make even sour characters seem friendly. Sincerely believes in his cause, and very proud of his nation.
Biography: Born and raised in the Sudeten mountains. His father served in the Great War on the Eastern Front, and his father before him in the Franco-Prussian War. His father married a Czech woman, who taught his family the Czech language as they were raised in the hills, herding goats. It was useful whenever they went down to visit the towns, selling cheese and meat.
The military service of his family to the German realm probably dates back to the 16th century. He was always loyal to Germany, and he joined the Freikorps which appeared when the Sudetenland was being occupied. After this, he volunteered for the German Heer. He was trained in time for the Polish invasion, and took part in each conflict after that point.
For his exceptional service up to this point(Poland, France, Balkans) in his rifle regiment, he was awarded the Iron Cross, first class. His experience so far has been as a machinegunner, and then as an assault team leader.

Gefreiter Thorvald Larssen - Teofish
Name: Thorvald Larssen
Gender: Male
Date of Birth: 27 August, 1913 (2
Nationality: Norwegian
Rank: Gefreiter
Appearance: 184 cm tall, athletic and very hardy, sharp blue eyes, dark blonde hair cut half-short and slicked backwards in contemporary style, short cropped full beard.
Personality: Generally positive and joking, with a penchant for pranks, puns and unsavoury jokes. Often at the expense of others. Though he can be somewhat melancholy and reserved when drinking. Prefers the company of a few to that of a crowd. But is also perfectly fine with solitude, and will on occasion actively seek it. Also has something of a temperament problem at times. And can fly completely off the handle for the smallest things on a bad day.
He despises the "Hardcore" Nazi believers. Both because he thinks it can't possibly be healthy to devote yourself so utterly to something that isn't family or the like. And because he finds their ideas generally disturbing. Nevertheless he is extremely loyal to his fellow soldiers, and especially to his commanding officer. And will easily risk his own life to save any of them, except perhaps a few specific individuals. He has little regard for "proper conduct". And has no compunctions about arguing even a direct order if he feels it goes against his principles, reason, or if he just doesn't respect the superior giving it.
He carries a large Sami knife with an engraved reindeer horn handle at all times. A gift from Katti, the Sami girl he named his rifle after, whose death he's never truly gotten over. And has proven very competent close-combat with it. He has seen some combat. But is in no way a hardened veteran yet.
Biography: Thorvald was born in Hammerfest in August 1913. His family moved to Kirkenes in 1927 where Thorvald would frequently accompany his father on treks across the border to Murmansk to sell dried fish and seal furs. And thereby he also learned to speak some semblance of Russian. He was always a great lover of the outdoors, and spent every school holiday hiking in the Rondane mountains and the border marches with his father and brother. He loved hunting reindeer, mountain hare and grouse. And became an exceptional marksman with his Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 which his father had bought him for his fifteenth birthday on one of their trips. He named it Katti after a Sami girl he had been wildly in love with, but who succumbed to pneumonia during the winter before. He was always fascinated by the city life of Oslo, and even more, the great continental cities. He was however always fascinated by the city life of Oslo, and even more, the great continental cities.
He served out his compulsory time in the Norwegian army, at the border garrison in South Varanger. He initially wanted to continue serving, but was rejected. He then decided to try to finally realize his dream of seeing the big cities of Europe afterwards. But his family, though not directly poor, could not afford to send him to a university abroad. Instead his father got him an job with an uncle as a fisherman in Lofoten.
After three years he had saved up enough to move to Oslo. And enrolled in Oslo police academy. After two years he graduated with slightly above middling grades in all except intuition and tactical investigation. He then begun to work as an Oslo police officer. Serving primarily as an investigator in the violent crimes department, where he stayed until the invasion of April 1940.
After the NS and German forces occupied the whole of Norway he saw his chance to finally see the world. He resigned his position with the now German run police force. And used his connections with his department head, who was an NS member with some degree of pull within the party, to be recruited into the German Wehrmacht. Thorvald was never really a great follower of the Nazi ideology. But at the time, given how the war was going he figured the Wehrmacht to be his best bet to both realize his dreams of seeing Europe, and to serve as a professional soldier.
In December 1940 he was inducted into the newly formed 5th SS Division "Wiking", Regiment Nordland along with many other Scandinavian volunteers. During training he was quickly discovered by his officers to be an exceptionally talented sharpshooter/sniper. Due to this, and his knowledge of mountain travel and general wilderness skills, (and a rather heated dispute with his an Obersturmführer about his insistence on keeping his Mosin-Nagant as a primary service weapon over the standard K98k sniper rifles, which he found lacking at longer ranges), he was transferred to the more specialized 6th SS Mountain Division Nord upon its creation in February 1941. After seeing some real combat, and once again proving his exceptional marksmanship. His commanding officer, also noting his proficiency in Russian and general stealth and survival skills, recommended he be transferred to the Brandenburgers.

Obergefreiter Branko Jusict - Captured Joe
Name: Branko Jusic
Gender: Male
Date of Birth: February 17th, 1910 (31)
Nationality: Croatian
Rank: Croatian rank: Vodnik; German rank: Obergefreiter
Appearance: Below-average height; Close-cropped black hair, shaven face; Dark brown eyes beneath dark brows, sharp nose. A bit your stereotypical Balkan thug.
Personality: As a member of an elite Croatian regiment he is a proud soldier and very nationalistic, although he has great respect for the German army and its soldiers. He wants to be a good comrade with the Germans, although he tends to look down on other eastern allies of the Germans like the Hungarians. He is a rather strict Roman Catholic and tends to follow Christian morals, except that he has no objection killing people. Although he has a low opinion on Russians and Serbs, he is willing to work together with them if required.
Biography: Born in Zagreb in a small Croatian family, he learnt both the Croatian and German language as his father was a soldier in the Austro-Hungarian army. His father disappeared during an allied offensive in Galicia in 1916, and his wife and two sons were left to fend for themselves as the Austro-Hungarian empire fell apart and Croatia was incorporated into Yugoslavia. Although he disliked the Yugoslav state Branko became a policeman while his brother found work at an office. Because of his family's military background he trained himself shooting rifles, although he didn't pursue a career in the Yugoslav army which was too 'Serbian' for his taste.
Years later he joined the newly founded 'Ustashe' or 'Rebels' movement which had a strong Croatian nationalistic character which appealed to Branko. He received military training from the Italians, from whom he picked up enough Italian to converse with themin their language. After completing his training he and other Ustashe fought a small guerilla war against Yugoslav army and police forces. When the Germans invaded Yugoslavia in 1941 he and his comrades did bolder attacks against Yugoslav army units, aiding the Germans during their advance by their actions in the Yugoslav army's rear. One of these actions involved him assasinating a Serbian Major on his own.
When Yugoslavia was defeated and the Ustashe put into power in Croatia, Branko as a member of the first Ustashe regiment became member of the elite 'Black Legion' regiment of the Ustashe. As a freshly promoted sergeant in this elite unit he was transferred to the German elite forces in exchange for German instructors for the Croatian army.
Friedrich "Fritz" Schäfer - Corndawg
Name: Friedrich "Fritz" Schäfer
Gender: Male
Date of Birth: 23 February, 1921 (20)
Nationality: German
Rank:
Appearance: 5'10", 140lbs. Friedrich has fair skin and is a bit of a pretty boy in that sense. He has short, dark hair and bright blue eyes. He has surprisingly small ears, but a rather normal looking nose. A strong, rather German jaw completes his face. In build he is slightly slimmer than the average soldier and decently muscled. He also has rather large feet.
Personality: Open, enthusiastic, and outgoing, Friedrich is very much the puppy eyed recruit at times. He knows his way around a battlefield, but he is rife with unbridled enthusiasm and curiosity. Naturally, this means that he can either get along with or get on the nerves of his brothers-in-arms depending on the situation. Oftentimes a jokester, but capable of maintaining professionalism when necessary. Generally a hit with the average girl.
Biography: Friedrich was born in Poland to German parents who were living there at the time. He spent his young life there before his mother passed away and he and his father moved back to Germany when Friedrich was around 11 years old. It was at first a tough transition until he joined the Hitlerjugend and began to fit in again. Not one for politics, Friedrich reveled mainly in the camaraderie the organization fostered through physical labor and other activities. It was there that Friedrich took a liking to mechanics and familiarized himself with the vehicles of the German army. He also attended public school and made his way along as an average student.
When he was of age, Friedrich enlisted as soon as he could on account of not having anything to do and his previous enjoyment of the Youth. While in training, he expanded his knowledge of basic mechanics and was also instructed in basic demolitions work. On the firing range he was found to excel in the use of submachine guns whilst remaining average with rifles.
Friedrich's first taste of combat was the invasion of Poland during which he proved to be useful due to his early life in the country. However, his own enthusiasm coupled with that of his commanding officer led to his unit pushing too far into Poland and being cut off from the rest of the German forces. While most of his comrades were either killed or captured, Friedrich escaped with a bullet through his leg by moving quietly, carefully eliminating enemies when he was at risk, and, at one point, seducing a Polish woman to keep himself hidden until friendly troops reached him.
He was returned home where his story led his superiors to recommend him for special forces training. After recovering from his wound, Friedrich was put through all the necessary rote to become stealthier and even more ready for action.
