DIVISION A - WEEK 4 : BLADECAST MATCH PREVIEW

HOUSE TULLY vs. UNITY

This seventh edition of Warband's most prestigious tournament witnesses a return to Warband’s roots, with the division system being brought back to life after several years of using a ladder format. This should provide for a more exciting and tense competition where every team is going to face challenging opponents on a more regular basis. Four weeks into the tournament already, BladeCast_TV is delighted to be given the chance to follow some of the best action of this WNL. For this preview, we'll be taking a closer look at Division A, where after falling to them during the second week, House Tully gets the occasion to take its revenge against Unity.

TEAM PRESENTATION

House Tully’s core takes its roots from the legendary Apis Europae lineup, with some of their oldest players coming back for this edition of the WNL. Compared to previous tournaments, however, the need for new additions was a bit stronger this time, and several new players make their appearance in the team. Because of their new additions, they felt a name change necessary - despite some of them having already played for AE in the past. While the team’s name has changed and might ease the pressure slightly, the intention will remain the same. Winning is in the DNA of all of these players, with several major tournament wins under their belts, and they are undoubtedly one of the favourites for the Division A title.

House Tully can rely on a stack of five deadly infantries composed of Deacon Barry, Scar, eRRoR, Gibby, and Anchor. The two latest have already played with AE in previous tournaments, and proved their worth on more than one occasion. However, eRRoR has often been on the opposing side to this team. This time, he will be joining his former adversaries and should also be a serious threat to contend with. Recruiting former FT's carry SirAlecks was also an excellent move, as the Spanish cavalryman has become one of the strongest players in the whole scene over the years, and was one of the big reasons for his previous team’s success. He will be accompanied by Dopey, who has been performing extremely well in recent tournaments, AZAN, one of the most experienced in-game leaders in the scene, and native veteran Shemaforash, who needs no introduction. It is also worth noting that Peter, who has been playing under the FT banner for several tournaments, won't be making a return with House Tully for this edition of the WNL. While his presence will surely be missed, all four cavalry players represent enough of a threat on their own to make up for the Frenchman's absence. LeRoux, OGL, and Razer will fill up the ranger spots for their team, and respectively represent a load of experience and skill, confirming that House Tully's overall roster is one of the strongest in this tournament.

After a start with mixed results (a convincing victory against FTW and a close loss versus Unity), House Tully seems to have found their footing, as demonstrated by their recent win against Main Eleven. Facing Unity once more in this fourth week, it's safe to assume that House Tully will be seeking revenge.

TEAM PRESENTATION

Throughout the years, Unity has developed from a team slowly establishing itself within the top teams, to an actual major title contender. Nonetheless, the last step has proven to be the hardest - as was the case in the WSC final against Frontline Tactics - and the boys from Unity were often forced to be content with a bronze or silver medal. Coming into this WNL, Paulo's men will be looking at breaking that curse once more, and have gathered a team capable of competing with the very best teams in Division A.

Unity's roster has often changed over time, but this iteration has nothing to be ashamed of in comparison to the previous lineup. Kani has shown great improvements since joining the team, and will be accompanied by seasoned veterans Sebe, LaPache, Vernon, and Thorr. If this makes for a rather odd infantry core on paper, they have more than held their ground so far in this competition, and provide for an endless source of firepower that Unity can rely on. When it comes to their cavalry department, recruiting Ciiges was an excellent way to overcome Brian's departure to Main Eleven; the Dutchman is currently the highest rated player when it comes to total kills in the tournament. Firunien will join him as cavalry, as the German player proved to be a very strong asset for Unity to rely on. On open maps, Thorr and Unity captain Paulo will be joining as third and fourth cavalries. Indeed, Paulo's transition from ranger to cavalry seems to have become fully fledged, since Unity can already rely on two extremely solid players in that area, Maximou and Apollo. Last but not least, Unity also has the luxury to count on a third ranger in their ranks, Caius, who will bring tons of experience into the mix, and will be a huge morale boost.

Unity's start in Division A has been rather stellar so far as they defeated every single one of their opponents, including a very important win against House Tully in the second week. Coming into this match, they will be looking to repeat that performance against Deacon's team and while this looks like a tough challenge, they have already proved that they have the ability to do it.

MAPS AND FACTIONS

The maps for this week set the scene for a rather traditional contest, with Reveran Village and San'di'bush to decide the game. Even if it is now well known by pretty much every player at the top level, Reveran Village remains a rather tactical map where early positioning can play a lot in the outcome of certain rounds. Last week, House Tully was seen using three rangers on both sides of Waterfall with a rather positive outcome, so it's safe to assume they might try it again on Reveran Village as Vaegirs. In all fairness, both teams could make good use of such a composition, since we mentioned that Unity also have the capacity to rely on three deadly archers. It will be interesting to see if either team try a three ranger setup, as it can also quickly backfire on a map like Reveran Village. It appears you don't always have the time to create the perfect crossfire to make the best use of your archers should the flag spawn on the opposite side of the map. Nords are obviously the weaker faction of the two on this map, as they are outplayed in almost every department. While their javelins can often become a complicated threat to deal with, they won't be as powerful as they could be on other maps, and making good use of Nords superior infantries is not an easy task.

San'di'bush is another famous scenery in competitive native and might just end up as a brawl of infantry between the two teams. Even if they remain the most balanced faction of the two, Vaegirs are not as powerful as they happen to be on open maps, which could potentially give a slight edge to Rhodoks. It is also fair to mention that on San'di'bush, tactics are not as diversified, and winning or losing mostly comes down to individual skill. May they be in the alley, middle, or graveyard, fights are often extremely chaotic and will therefore also depend on how well players synergize between each other. The result of this map might also be influenced by the confrontation between SirAlecks and Ciiges - two of the most in-form players of this season of the WNL - as whoever comes out on top will definitely give a significant advantage to their team.

Featuring Unity and House Tully, tonight's stream looks like one hell of a grudge match and one you don't want to miss. Come watch it on BladeCast_TV, commented on by Viktor and PPK!

The team's presentation for House Tully is pretty much the same as the last preview as is it very hard to freshen-up your descriptions from one article to another since compositions don't change. Hopefully, we will cover other matches with other teams, from different divisions, so these previews don't become too redundant as we'll probably see other rematches happening through the course of the tournament.

Hope you will still enjoy the preview and see you tonight on the stream.

Good read, however, Unity's current ranking is 1st and House Tully's ranking is 2nd.

It's been changed, they were left untouched from the previous article, thanks for the catch. Kani and Vernon's flags have also been corrected and should now be accurate.

Edit: Thanks for the positive comments!
