Will devs plan on adding feast back into the game?

This game is just a basis for modders, nothing more. We should stop losing energy with what devs should have included in the game.

This game is just war simulator.

Agreed. We all continue to play it because of the breadth that it offers. I would also find it pointless to play if it didn't have the basic diplomacy it has. Imagine not being able to declare war or peace, or to bribe lords to join you. It it would just be Mortal Combat with swords.
That is not what I call diplomacy.

This game is just war simulator.

It is a jack of all trades game that offers a little of what dozens of genre-specific games offer in great detail.

That is both its beauty, and its curse. It is the reason so many are addicted to it in spite of it's flaws, and why so many people dislike it, but still play.

It is a little bit real time battle simulator, a little bit role playing, a little bit diplomacy, a little bit FPS and a little bit of many other genres. There are better games in all those genres which specialise. Total War is a better tactical battle simulator, Crusader Kings has better diplomacy, Civilisation games are better for building empires etc etc. But Bannerlord offers more diversity of experience than them all, because they specialise.

So people who play Bannerlord and Crusader Kings are sad because diplomacy lacks. But they still play for the tactical battle. People who play Total War are sad because tactical battles lack, but still play for the FPS thrill of being in the battle. People who play Civilisation are sad because they have so little control over the development of their empire. But they still play because they can walk about their cities and see the buildings during a siege.

Bannerlord will never be as good at your favourite specialised game, at it's specialisation. It will offer a little bit of that. Just enough to support it's breadth.
I am still searching the diplomacy in the game. To me, it is non-existent.

But still, let's assume bannerlord has a little bit of everything ... what a poor AI ...

    This game sucks

Just because a game had the design intentions to be very compatible with mods (I don't even think they were as 'open' to this early on originally) shouldn't excuse a lazy base game.
So not only is TW getting the EA QA testing from us (but ignore most change issues), now they also don't have to do half the work either? Arguably, that is a pretty sauve business model.
I am not excusing TW at all. I'll repeat it once more so that it's clear. I just say that I am happy the game has released, I admit it's clearly under what was supposed to be done. I put my feelings away and I just focus on what is, in my opinion, the most interesting part of this game : modders. We complained about TW for almost 2 years now, what has happened ? Nothing has happened because they are unable to rectify this game. I think we just have to give up on TW.

    This game sucks

This is a thread about bannerlord, not mods. If someone makes an amazing mod in the future then, genuinely, good for them. But none of us can say one way or another if that's going to happen, so bringing it up is irrelevant. Having actually made an overhaul mod, you're always at the whim of the developers, and a bad patch can ruin all your hard work and make you quit for good.
But this game goes hand in hand with mods. Separating the two is a big mistake.

Plus, you are of bad faith because you deeply know that "good mods" is something that is going to happen, so was it the case with warband.

You were at the whim of the developers particularly in EA, now the game has released.

    This game sucks

I can sense the "muh 8 years of development" jabs coming. Take cover!
HAHA you are right. But by 10 years I mean : 10 years of intense modded bannerlord gaming.
  7. Fistochat

    This game sucks

Even if the game was perfect, some people would still complain. That's why this discussion is pointless. Now as I stated before, there is two ways of dealing with this game : first you decide to be optimistic, thanks to the great mods that are coming (KoA, Guerra del'arte, etc.) ; or you decide to be pessimistic, in which case I can assure you will have regrets because mods are going to be amazing and in 10 years, your opinion will be the extreme opposite of today.

So don't waste time, just enjoy what is coming.

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord Video Review by IGN

I agree with this review. Very unique battle simulation, blank game between battles. A 6 seems correct. I hope this review will have more impact than the community.

Releasing the game in this state feels like a slap in the face

@Fistochat, clear the expectations are growing into the far sky over years and years, thats perhaps also a ''problem'' Mount and Blade works now more than 15 years and i am sure there will be some more years. That i wait for mods is i think also normal after more than a decade playing that game concept (clear seomtimes also a year of pause^^) But i am sure mods will match my taste in a better way, was in past for M&B the same. And if the platform is fine for modding then it is finally fine.
That is the point, clear the base game isn't astonishing, I agree, but I'm sure we'll have a ton of fun with mods.

No one is overreacting. People were actually under reacting. Coping hard. Using EA as a shield for legit concerns every time and the whole time. Yet here we are. They did what was best for themselves and no one else.
No one is overreacting ? Every day people are complaining about how unfinished this game is, and I agree with them! But seriously, what other company proposes a medieval sandbox game that is, in addition, completely moddable ?

They did a lot for themselves for sure, but they offered us a good base for mods !! That's all we need, I don't care about the base game in itself other than that.

So nobody should be insulted by the fact a 50€ game doesn't hold its promises, is a downgrade to its predecessor and ships with most important mechanics to one extend or another broken?

Nobody should be insulted because the devs made it possible for modders, who are using their free time with no reward other than a thank you (from the player base that is), to fix this damned mess?

Don't get me wrong. I don't want to insult you personally, but people like you are the reason practices like this work and gaming developers can stop putting in the work to produce a product worth the price.
The game is certainly not a downgrade to its predecessor, or your memory has reshaped the game over years.

Nobody is forcing the modders to do it, they do it because it's a pleasure for them, they don't do it to repair TW's game. What you are saying makes no sense.

What do you don't understand in : I agree the base game isn't what it should have been, but don't overreact cause modders will make us enjoy it. I don't think I deserve to be "the reason practices like this work and gaming developers can stop putting in the work to produce a product worth the price". I am just optimistic about the modding possibilities that offer this game.

Releasing the game in this state feels like a slap in the face

I think you are all overreacting a bit. Guys, rejoy, the game is stable and is a very solid base for modders. And that is all we need. Don't ask to much of this company, they did what was the best for us in the end.

A Week Away From Launch - The Game Still Feels Very Empty

Keep in mind that this game opens up so many possibilities and so much potential via modding. It's repeatedly made clear that they're focusing on making the game stable to facilitate that. If they focus on adding various features, that would mean leaving those bugs alone (in fact it would cause more). Meaning a modder might have his creativity limited because if he used a certain module in a certain way, the game would crash or cause an unwanted behavior that the modder can't touch. From what I can see, they're trying to avoid that. That's why there is always so many crash fixes each patch.

Sure it would be nice if they could be stable and immersive and all that, but hey. Cut them some slack.
I agree. I think they realized it would be better to release a functional but unfinished game rather than a dysfunctional but finished game. In itself, it is already a confession on their part. And it is the best decision they could make.

What's wrong with faces and why they looked better in 2016?

I'd be surprised if TW had changed the facial keyframes since that video to improve performance, but they might have. IMO its more likely that the video faces were individually generated manually to demonstrate the engine capabilities. However, the vast majority of faces in BL are randomly generated between preset minimum and maximum face codes, guaranteeing blandness. In particular, there are only a limited number of eye colour codes that give a spark of life as opposed to dull hues.
You might be right, it's probably a matter of performance. Still, I hope they will allow the engine to work at it's maximum potential some day. I have to say that faces look incredibly realistic, compared to what we have now. It's is easier to memorize faces and therefore, it makes them more alive.
  13. Fistochat

What's wrong with faces and why they looked better in 2016?

The faces we have in the game right now are ugly and yes, they look all related. I don't understand, why didn't they keep the faces we saw in 2016 ?

    Release Plans

Does anybody know anything about the number of soldiers on the battlefield, will there be the possibility to extend to more than 1'000 on the battlefield?

Other than that, any information about a potential redesign of the faction troops? I mean, with new equipments that were released along the EA.
  15. Fistochat

Is this the final design for troops and nobles?

"Nothing is our final design and the game is continuously being developed and updated. That said, there is no specific plan at this time to change the noble troops and these types of changes would be a very low priority for now."~Tw
^That's probably the answer you would get if a TW dev responded 💊 🤡 💊
    Scary.
  16. Fistochat

Is this the final design for troops and nobles?

I totally agree. Plus, they released a lot of new skins that only the player can equip. It's a bit sad to see that faction troops aren't "up to date" if I can say. Each time I get my self into a new campaign, I redesign every troop tree with My Little Warband, native troop trees are poorly designed in my opinion.

All the information I brought back from Gamescom (Banners, bug fixes, futur of the game, UI changes, new crafting parts in forge, consoles, etc)

Very nice video. Bannerlord is finally getting released but sadly, there is not much to get excited about :
    - Banners seem useless from what we have seen in the video, but having said this, they are very well designed
    - No diplomacy, which means no alliance, no plots, no affinity with factions or lordss and that, is really really sad. I cannot imagine a medieval sandbox where diplomacy doesn't exist
    - No real upgrade out of smithing, I still can't get what is the point with smithing
    - No feasts, nor flavour elements that would have enriched the gaming experience
    - ...

    Am I forgetting something ?

Realistic AI mod is a must-have for everyone who loves sieges

For me personally, RBM and Diplomacy are two must-haves in this game. Unplayable without them. Luckily there are other mods to fill in the gaps.
Diplomacy I'm not sure, because I think that something better can be and will be done. But RBM, I totally agree. Vanilla battles look like masses absorbing other masses.
  19. Fistochat

There should be so many more banners per unit on the battlefield compared to what can be seen in Gamescom gameplay footages

Except for the banners that give stat bonuses, other banners look rather small no ?

What does clan system serve in gameplay?

I think that clan system is a good feature in Bannerlord. It just deserves to be fleshed out.

The issue you point out with relation has nothing to do with clan system, in my opinion. I don't really understand the relation system or at least, sometimes I don't know what it stands for. When you want to vassalize a lord, I have the feeling that relation does not really help and other than that, relation is just a number beside a protrait.
