Update #19 Pistols, Sentinels and Stormtroopers
Here again with another update. This is a typical render update but one of the larger ones. Next update, I'll start giving more information on how we're doing in other departments such as coding, sounds, and animation. Also, we'll be showing a bunch of in-game screenshots and possibly videos, since, thanks to DanyEle, both factions are now "playable," but far from finished. For now, enjoy some new models.
In earlier previews and updates, we showed two revolvers, one French and one German. For those who missed them;

These revolvers might be outdated by WWI, but they're far from useless and will be an option for those who value power and/or prefer old fashioned firearms. For those who want to be armed with the latest, we have semi-autos! Here's a Ruby pistol, which were very widely used by French officers.

Oh no, why isn't there another image in this block. Something's not right. Yup, the most important pistol of them all isn't here. Sorry but the Luger is a lot more complex than all of these and it'll be a little longer before we can show it. I didn't want to delay an entire update for one model so you'll have to wait till a bit longer to enjoy the glory of the Luger. Perhaps next update if things go well.
Now onto some more German uniforms. It's probably getting a bit tiresome to see German uniforms over and over again, but I think you guys will enjoy these.
Here is the uniform of Sentry wearing a Grabenpanzer. Unlike most body armor experiments by other countries, this one was quite successful and used in large numbers. It may give you descent protection from rifles at a distance and pistols but rifle bullets at close range will punch straight through it. Obviously, the disadvantage of wearing one of these is that it severely restricted your speed and movement so it was only worn by sentries, machine gunners and other soldiers in exposed positions.
To top it off, some uniforms of the elite Stormtroopers. They have grenade sacks, cloth bandoliers, and to top it off, leather reinforced trousers.
As I said earlier, next update is when we're going to start showing more in-game stuff. DanyEle joining the team as a coder has really sped up the process. At this point, most of our items are in-game but there are still minor tweaks to be made. Of course, we'd also like to show off the new scripts that have been added to bring the WWI experience to life. See you guys soon!
Actually, it's not a terrible gun at all. If you read Pétain's 1917 survey of French weapons, many regiments called it a very effective offensive and defensive weapon. It was noted as being useful providing flanking fire, defending conquered trenches, and during offensives, using walking fire. Many Chauchats were noted to have fired thousands of rounds perfectly during combat. They did note some stoppages due to lip deformation and dirt, but it's not as common as people nowadays think it was.
I believe that the bad reputation of the gun stems from the American model, Mle 18, which converted the Chauchat to using the US .30-06. It didn't work out and had tons of issues due to the .30-06 being more powerful 8mm Lebel and just poor manufacturing. Pretty much it was useless and really did jam after a couple rounds like the myths say. Even though American troops were primarily armed with the original French Mle 15 with Lebel rounds, a few Mle 18s were sent to the front lines. Most likely they never saw combat but you can imagine how reporters would swarm over the guys unlucky enough to be assigned with a gun that won't even fire properly. Mle 18s were always thrown away and it is my guess that the reports of Mle18 were more widely published so the reputation of a gun that jams every few seconds spread to the name of the Chauchat, both Mle 15 and 18. It's either that or American Chauchat gunners were just **** at cleaning their Chauchats and weren't given the training to use them as effectively as their French counterparts did.
So no, it isn't a great gun. But it's far from a bad weapon. It's jamming issues were over exaggerated. Also, think about it this way. Both the French and German armies realized the need for a light automatic weapon. The Germans spent the entire war developing the MP 18 and even when it was done, it came out few in number. The French grabbed a pre-war design that could be made out of scraps and were immediately able to manufacture thousands and provide them to troops all over Europe. There's a book called Honour Bound: Chauchat Machine Rifle where you can read more about this.
Soooooo how about the Maschinenpistole 18? They were used at the latter days of the war yet it is a cool gun but balancing issues would be a problem, unless you make it so it jams a lot. A 30%-50% chance of it jamming after each 10 shots and each shot does half a quarter of damage.
One of the reasons some other mods were not as fun was because the guns were to accurate and the maps were small.
I know rifles are accurate but there needs to be something stopping people from going out into the field and shooting 5 people from 50 yards away within 20 seconds. Jamming for rifles would be nice, so no one can go ham bone on everyone. Reload speed needs to be realistic but it would be great if sometimes your player "messed up" maybe trying to load a few rounds in his rifle he drops a few rounds on accident.
If your gun could break from you blocking with it or it being shot, that would be great.
1 last thing, machine gun should not have good accuracy at long range, just please no.
Is this stuff possible in Iron Europe?
I noticed most NW mods, even very good ones, that are very regiment event heavy usually die on a few weeks or months, how will Iron Europe be any different. Will there be something that will make Iron Europe stand out from those other mods.
