I like the rules as they are now. They are far more pragmatic, and requires less admin/host input. Becouse the admin/host is acctually there to play aswell. It should be up to clans to figure out what kind of formation they want, how they move, and such. From what I have seen, most clans prefer to slam their head into a brickwall and use formations that has proved again and again to not work instead of trying something else.

That is indeed the way it's done in vikingr. Though, since the movement speed is so slow in vikingr, it makes having reach extremely good, and blocking isn't really needed with a spear, becouse you are going to be out of range anyways. In RAW spears being unable to block is good way to fix the issue, and I'd say 2 handing spears is still a viable if abit risky strategy, if you have the skill to dance in and out of reach.

We are mostly talking about MP part. Where 2.4 had a very enjoyable balance which made mp a blast, with the higher armour ratings it just isn't the same.

Depends on which class you play. The empire spearmen are very agille.
