You may want to use the dedicated server version and set the valve anti-cheat line to 0 in the configuration file.
This would skip you the hassle of fixing it after every updates

Possible, but some people would rather not set up a whole server when they only want to play with their friends. The UI should contain this option, like every other module does. Personally, I have no need for this anymore, since after the update, the problems I had were fixed, but someone requested an update.

Valve Anti-Cheat proved to be the problem in my case. Unfortunately, server administration panel lacks the option to disable it, so I've made a little utility to disable the option in the game's memory. It should work for the current Steam version and any module.
