WEEK 5: MATCH PREVIEW

The Warband Summer Cup is heading towards the closing week of the Group-Stage. Twenty teams fought during dozens of intense matches but ultimately only the top 2 teams of each group will remain and make it to the most competitive phase of the competition, the playoffs.

In each group, two teams already stood out from the rest of the competitors and will be most likely those which qualify for the quarter finals. The question which is still yet to be defined is the final placing those teams will get, something which could potentially impact a lot their run for the title.

Four matches, all detailed by a preview, will decide the seedings of said playoffs. In Group A, the bees from Apis Europae will go face to face against the Polish Eagles while Aequalitas will try to defeat Frontline Tactics to top Group B. The faith of Group C will be decided between Unity and Tilde Turtles while the last confrontation will see Ferocious Trident Wielders take on The Castellans, to finish Group D.

AEQUALITAS

Team Presentation

Despite some impressive performances in recent months, across a range of tournaments, one cannot help but notice that Aequalitas is still somewhat underestimated by competitors.

With a slightly altered roster, which included the omission of some of their veteran players, it had yet to be seen whether Aequalitas could prove the community wrong once again by pulling out all the stops at the critical moments in this tournament.

After taking down Men of Borr in the first week, Aequalitas went on cautiously to face Eat What You Kill, with a full understanding of the importance of this fixture in deciding their future in the Warband Summer Cup. The first map presented difficulties for Aequalitas, with many predicting a defeat at the hands of EK but on entering the second map such predications were dispelled with the latter being crushed and Aequalitas securing their ticket to the playoffs.

Although they ripped apart Trinity last week with relative ease, Aequalitas know that they must not become complacent when going into their next match versus Frontline Tactics. The aforementioned team is nothing like the other competition that has played in this tournament thus far. On paper, even Aequalitas’ impressive roster, which has proven it is capable of excellent teamwork at pivotal moments, pales in comparison to the elite lineup of FT.

Now it is up to Aequalitas to prove that they are still one, amongst the very best teams in the competitive scene and that regardless of whether they’re expected to perform or not, they have no intention of playing a minor role in this tournament.
FRONTLINE TACTICS

Team Presentation

The significance of the match is certainly not lost on Frontline Tactics either, who have yet to fully gain confidence in this tournament. They must be vigilant now that they are entering what is undeniably the most intense and dangerous phase of the competition.

By rolling over teams like Trinity, Men of Borr and only dropping five of the seventeen rounds in their match against EK, Frontline Tactics has proven rather convincingly that they are more than able to adapt from a successful 5v5 team to an 8v8 one fairly effortlessly.

Looking at the disparity in skill level between Frontline Tactics and the teams which it has fought thus far it is hardly a surprise that they have got to the place that they are at now. If any team can come close to matching these aspiring champions it surely must be Aequalitas. They will look to capitalize on FT’s mistakes and slips in cohesion, both of which are more likely to occur in the case of Frontline Tactics due to the fact that they are a new team and as such will inevitably still be going through some teething problems.

Neither teams can afford to lose. That being said, with Aequalitas being assigned the unofficial title of ‘underdog’ in this match-up perhaps some of the pressure, for them at least, is relieved. In any case, Aequalitas versus Frontline Tactics promises to be an intense and heated ‘clash of the titans’ which will undoubtedly gather substantial interest should it happen to be streamed.

Make sure to check the Streams & VODs thread and keep an eye on who could potentially cover that match, as it is yet to be announced.
