[Steam][Linux] Crashes every few minutes

I've got the beta on Steam, using Linux. I left this game sitting for a while, but it was working decently a few weeks ago. Not sure how many patches have been released, however I did a complete reinstall of the beta and tried the game.

It's crashing too often so it's unplayable to me, due to allocation issues:

I have set the video settings to medium but pumped the textures up to 100. I'll be trying tuning the textures down, however is there anything that can be done for this? I'd like to play it at full spec, you know :smile:

I'm running a 64bit Linux Mint OS, on a heavy gaming box. Can give more details if relevant.

Does it happens with native too? Or just VC?

You can add your computer specs (Steam -> Help -> System Info), rgl_config.txt and rgl_log.txt after a crash.
 
Haven't tried Native. Will do. I've reduced the texture details a lot and it's much better, although I do tend to get the latest error I posted when I quit without saving and load again a save. I'm now going to restart a new game with the "High" settings that I would like to use, and post the resulting crash log and config (in the next post).

Try creating a sandbox game to skip the story-mode scripts. Can you at least start the game and move around now?

About your sound files:

Sound file could not be found: Modules/Viking Conquest/Sounds/sword_clash_02.ogg

The files have a uppercase (Sword instead of sword). If you rename them it will work on Linux.

I tried the game on my Ubuntu box (notebook, onboard graphics, 64bits, 8GB ram) and it worked normally. I created a story-mode and did the tutorial, I visited a few towns, etc.

If you can test it with Ubuntu (make a new partition, or use a pendrive, etc) then you can find out if its a OS thingy and not your computer. Just a idea.

In any way devs are working on it too (@Idibil post).

Uhm I'll see if I can try it on Ubuntu. Linux Mint is ubuntu underneath, but an oldish version (14.04). What version did you try it with?

Also, do I need to use the "beta" version as usual, or can I go with the "normal" one?

Just tried it now with:

  • Sandbox mode
  • Sounds and music completely disabled
  • Ultra High settings

It completed the character creation but crashed when trying to get into the nearest center.

14.04 64bits. Its the same underneath but the UI and libraries that handle graphics have differences that could be the cause of your game crashing as you have a really good hardware setup. Just a thought.

Also, do I need to use the "beta" version as usual, or can I go with the "normal" one?
right now the Beta = Normal, as we are using the released 1.03 version. They could release 1.04beta any day tho.

Try using the classic menu. Its a hack for old computers.

It gave me some hope.. I was able to play a few minutes. It still crashed, and I don't think it was when entering a new center (was near one but crashed before "touching it"). Still allocation problem. This was with Medium graphics, 60% Textures detail, render_buffer_size = 500 (does it actually do anything? Is it worth increasing?) and in windowed mode.

The only tentative I can do is reducing the resolution a bit.. but it's a pity.
 
Using ubuntu 14.04 LTS game seems awesome but it crashes every few minutes far to bad to be playable. Mount & Blade Warband works perfectly as does at least one mod. I hope this gets fixed soon

you should add more info like your computer specs and your rlg_log.txt and rgl_config.txt files. Also your game version.

What I can say is that I play on Ubuntu 14.04 64bits and I dont have crashs, so it is not a global issue, but something localized.

nvidia 9800gt,
Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q8200,
4 gb of ram DDR2,
so not the worlds fastest computer, but before it crashes it works very well. So far its not crashed in battle, just in the campaign map. Sometimes its a complete close randomly, other times it freezes when going to the town menu, inventory etc, or just plain closes. Also the difficulty selection at the create new page flashes black repeatedly.

Many MAC and Linux issues are fixed in this version with new exe.

Then, you post your rgl_log with this version plz, I like see if sounds problem continue.

About rgl_config, you could low some graphics conditions:
max_framerate = 120
use_pixel_shaders = 0
use_vertex_shaders = 0
force_single_threading = 1 --> you can try this too.
 
Sure, my bad I didn't even know you could install different versions on Steam, I found the instructions http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php?topic=327602.0.

I shall also try the other graphics settings if that doesn't work.
