Hulagu Khan

Sergeant at Arms
As the second expansion added to the Mongol series for all you steppe warfare lovers and of course Mongol lovers, Mongol Invasion is in process of developement.

This mod takes place in (roughly) the year 1250. The mod is based on the Mongol's invasion of western-asia (middle-east). There will be as much historical accuracy's as can fit, as well as twists that balance gameplay.

Credits:
Subuatai - historical advice/corrections

Current Information:
Il-khanate Dynasty led by Hulagu Khan (Mongol ruler with majority Turkic, Mongol and Persian population)
Mamluk Sultanate led by Sultan Baibar (Mamluks pretty much assumed power over the Ayyubids, Mamluks were Kipchaks - Turkic)
Kipchak Khanate led by Mongke Khan (Mongol ruler with majority Turkic population)
Delhi Sultanate led by Iltutmish or Balban (both Turkic rulers)
Chagatai Khanate led by Chagatai Khan (Mongol ruler with majority Turco-Mongol population)

This mod will not be started until the rest of the mod's within the Mongol series; Mongol & Great Khan, are completed. However, any help is still accepted and rightfully credited, although it may be a while before this mod gets started, the more information before the mod gets started - the faster it gets done

Mod Progress bar: Pending....

Old Information:
Another Mongol mod!

This mod is based on the Mongol Invasion of the Middle-East. Through a time period where Mongols are not the only faction to fear at the height of their empire, balancing strength in each faction, with only a strong leader to take control of deserts, forests, plains, as well as snowy areas in the medieval map of the middle east from modern day Turkey to India.

Factions presented:

Mongol Empire
Kipchak Khanate
Mamluk Sultanate
Ghaznavid Empire
Rajput Kingdom
Seljuk Empire

Factions left out:

Kingdom of Jerusalem* [Do not want to work on europian-influenced factions]
Ghorid Sultanate [Too close to Ghaznavid]
Turkish Sultanate [Combined with Seljuk Empire]
Kingdom of Georgia [Not enough space between Kipchaks and Seljuk Turks]
Delhi Sultanate [Combined with Rajput Kingdom]
Kingdom of Armenia [Not enough space for the faction]
Byzantine Empire [Not enough space for the faction]

Faction Summary:

The Mongol Empire were experts with the bow, cavalry, and heavy cavalry at the same time. So it is in this mod, no one can intimidate them when it comes to hard steppe warfare and at the height of their invasion.

The Kipchak Khanate, although simular to the Mongols, are experts with bows and cavalry, however the use of axe's was widley known, most kipchaks were white-skinned - think of Russians, same location.

The Mamluk Sultanate took a great part in the Mongol's defeat in expansion, historically with the Kipchaks help, however not in this mod. They are heavily armored on foot, lightly armored but very deadly in cavalry.

Ghaznavid Empire - added for balance primarily, i had a choice of a few other factions but chose the Ghaznavids. They are a great anti-cavalry force. With the use of spears and long spears, a phalanx formation makes for a good faction to border the Mongol's invasion, however not undefeatable.

Rajput Kingdom is an all-Hindu faction united under one banner of the Raj of India, with thick dense forests for cover they were historically not an invading-type of nation however the mod differs. With Indias good use of elephants, i wouldnt worry about breaking enemy battle formations.

The Seljuks are a combination of all Turkish forces in the area, great with light cavalry, bows, and swords. Before the Mongols, the Seljuks were to fear.

The great thing about mongol mods, there's never enough, and there's never an end!

Anyone willing to help would be great, this is just gonna take longer on my own.

This will be the official thread of its progress, more organized.

* If anyone wants to help by doing most of the work for the Kingdom of Jerusalem then it will be added, but i wont.

But then there won't be any invasions of East

It's better to have Mongol Empire on the North trying to conquer South.

So it is better to unite:

Kongol Khan said:
Kipchak Khanate led by Mongke Khan (Mongol ruler with majority Turkic population)
Chagatai Khanate led by Chagatai Khan (Mongol ruler with majority Turco-Mongol population)

these. By the way, they are similar. Turkic-Mongolian.

And Golden Horde's aim was invading Eastern Europe. So it is another reason not to separate:

Kipchak Khanate

-

Il-khanate Dynasty led by Hulagu Khan (Mongol ruler with majority Turkic, Mongol and Persian population)

Il Khanate will be more standart title for Khanate.

Actually the Kipchaks during the 1250s were very happy just raiding and collecting tributes from Russian city-states and Eastern Europe. No leader since Batu Khan wanted to invade Europe by force. The only reason for the Mongol invasion of Europe wasn't to conquer land in the first place - but because the kingdom of Hungary refused to hand over Kipchak/Cuman refugees who fled over to their borders. When the war began, Poland also entered the picture as the Mongols knew they can ill-afford an undefended flank. Force into Hungary -> Main invasion force, force into Poland -> Recon force and for dealing with enemy reinforcements.

Mongols of 1241 - conquerors! Kipchaks of 1250 - extortionists! Anyways you can't historically unite those two khanates as they both had two different rulers at this time. There is no longer a great Khagan in this period. It's the end of the united Mongol Empire, and the dawn of the Turco-Mongol Khanates dominating the steppes for 300 years. Besides, having 5 diverse factions is cooler, and yes the Kipchaks were different from the Chagatai Khanate on the battlefield.

There were Kipchaks in Chagatai Khanate too. Actually, in both 'states' Mongols were only a small part. After Mongol Invasion of Russia by Genghis Khan most of Mongols returned back to Mongolia. There were some left but only a small part. So most of them were Turkic.

And still, Golden Horde (separated) is out of place.

Also, 5th faction is supposed to be Turkish one. The one between Great Seljuq Empire and Ottoman Empire. We just need the one in the right timeline.

Mongols were a small part of the entire empire even in the earlier days of the Mongols! It's always been like this for centuries. The contigent of Mongols that left the warzone were warriors loyal to the Khans who were summoned to return to Kurultai. The rest stayed. At this time however there wasn't much distinction between Mongolic and Turkic tribes when united by Chingghis Khaan, even less prior to Oghuz migration westward (Seljuks and later Ottomans). They are called Turco-Mongol for a reason.

Well, when Mongols first captured territory of Kazakhstan and invaded Russia - there were mostly Mongols. But then they became known as Turkic-Mongols, when they began the invasions of Europe. In Asia they were Mongols, as they captured China (later Chinese-Mongolian army, which attempted the invasion of Japan) and simply Mongols in Middle East.

Yes agreed that the Turkic warriors were always the ones going westward

The forces that invaded Russia were Turco-Mongols by origins. Mongol was not only the name of a new nomadic confederacy/ethnicity but a distinct class. With more Turkic tribes in modern Kazakhstan joining the Mongols and then with Kipchaks (who many also later became Kazakhs) - Turkic majority in the later Kipchak Khanate became unquestioned.

I think he wants the Oghuz Turks represented as well
During this time the Seljuk Turks were weakening and before the end of the century rose the Ottoman Turks. We can add in a 6th faction easily, just need to decide which one - Seljuks or Ottomans heh

Who is going to be invader: Kipchak Khanate or Chagatai Khanate?

What will the other one do? Maybe simply remove it as unnecessary? Still, I prefer the expanding of Mongol Empire to South.

There should be a poll.

Hahaha yeah come to think of it, is this really the right period to host the title "Mongol Invasion of the middle-east?" Cause this is more like warring states as in history

 make a poll on a name and whichever else needed and see the results.

-edit

im serious. if the title doesnt fit the mod then it's misleading and i am fresh out of ideas.

Ok...

2 mods

1) Mongol Civil Wars

2) The Mongol Invasion of the Middle East

Maybe we could just make the 2 mods, this IS the Mongol series, although I do prefer a trilogy set.  Unless my expansion project doesn't get counted as one of the series, in which case we could do that.  Still, thats a LOT of work - and we DO have 2 other mods to get to Version 1.0 before we start building a new mod which is a completely different time period.

Chronological order of mods:

1) Mongolia

2) The Mongol Invasion of China

3) The Mongol Invasion of the Middle East

4) Mongol Civil Wars
