I am working on a new map as well so here is a suggestion from what I am trying with mine. I am amping up the cost of armor and weapons and reducing the prices of tools, horses, clothing and other things. Factions each have a few resources that they can sell for very little gold in their own safe village, or they can risk the trip to town to make a huge profit. This way, the make rewards trading and crafting instead of allowing people to amass so much money that they can arm and outfit their entire faction. Up-ing the price keeps it so that armor actually is something worth holding on to and makes you think twice before you go to war with another faction. Some people may not like this, as they are use to buying several suits of armor for under 20k and dying many times, but I think in the end this will provide for better game play and less careless slaughter wars.
