I don't see how that solves the problem of a locust spawning inside your field  In any case, make sure you grab the sheafs of wheat as soon as the locusts cut 'em down! That way you can at least retrieve some of the wheat you planted.

Well obviously, the critters only spawn in the area if the area is big enough. I had my fenced field for ages (fecking biggers demanding that much bread :I) and no single beast spawned in it.
