Castles are way too huge scaled. It looks like someone had buildt a lot of wall and then everyone left and only a keep and one house for weapons was buildt in the massive yards.

Build walls around central buildings, not buildings (and training spots etc.) inside walls.

It would have been a massive hole in the lords' personal pockets aswell. Having to upkeep a sizeable enough garrison for the many Walls. And only 1 building to put them in. That's a lot of tents he has to pay for aswell.
