It was cortrolled, there was only one thrower that was supposed to throw in shields for show (javelin had metal head, those used in combat have latex heads, like in larp). He appeard to be a bad thrower, and the guy who's face was in the jav's way was talking to other and didn't stay focused enough to raise his shield fast enough
