Battle too close to city bug

Was during an escort mission a bandit force attacking the caravan I am escorting just outside the city but I am unable to join the battle as I cannot select the battle as the city overlaps it.
Can provide screenshot for clarity
Wasn't sure where to post bugs as it isn't clear.

All escort missions I did were strange. Caravan was always attacked when it reached the city. Not sure if this is intended, I would expect the attack on the road, it does not make sense that bandits would attack anything so close to city gates.

I know this does not directly is the problem OP mentioned, but it can be the cause.

I think you are correct there mate. Happened to me twice and always within a cities highlighted mouse over area. However the third time I tried it I managed to get in the fight but the cursor point to click was very small. I also found that if they don't attack next to a city then they don't attack at all.

I wish there has been some answer here. Instead, we're left floundering in the wastes of -5 merchant relations!!!
