A couple of suggestions

I'v seen it hinted at in a lot of other threads, but no one has out and said it. So: would it be possible to make like 4 or 5 soldiers in your army befriendable? Like their could be a camp screen where you just walk around and what not and there could be 5 randomly named soldiers who you can talk to. Through doing various quests with/for them or just by surviving battles with them their relations go up. They are slightly more likely to survive battles but are mortal and can die at any time. If they are a good friend with high relations they tend to stay closer to you during battles and are more willing to side with you in  votes (see next suggestion). If you desert they are more likely to come with you and become hero characters (though still killable, more just named characters). If your lord loses a battle and they weren't killed in it then when you rejoin with him they will be there too. If you retire then at a random time one of your old friends may come out of the blue and ask to join you and become a named but killable hero character (how cool would it be for your first friend in Calradia to come riding up to you a year after you left your  first lords service, while you are on campaign expanding your own kingdom and swear his allegiance to you?)

Number 2: I'v often heard that armies in the field were the first real democracies, being that unsure commanders often let their men vote on tactical moves like where to attack next and such. It would be cool if when your lord couldn't make his mind up whether or not you have enough troops to continue on campaign or if you should go home for a recruitment spree, where to attack next, if your numbers are great enough to defend the besieged town etc etc, to call a vote amongst the men. It could work like Marshall selection does with 2 options and everyone voting, though it would probably have to be in increments of like 10 so you would see "10 Swadian recruits vote for X" instead of seeing each troops vote. You have a short text adventure thingy before votes where you try to sway your fellow soldiers to your line of thinking based on persuassion skill. The lord does whatever is voted on. Should happen often enough to make it feel like a game-changing feature, but not so often that your commander won't do anything without holding a vote.

Just a few ideas, let me know if they are good or even implementable
