  1. Modding Tools Beta

I only see the "Editor" option in the main menu if I launch the game via the beta modding tool kit in Steam. Starting via the standard game there is no "Editor" option and you can press CTRL+E till the cows come home and it will do nothing. Somebody forget to mention something vital????

Clicking the Editor button after launching via the beta modding kit brings up the scene editor and nothing else.
  2. What Mods would you like to be made?

Medieval Japan anytime from 12th to 14th Centuries - major events being the Genpei War, Mongol Invasion attempts and Nanbokuchō War. (sorry but NOT interested in the over-exposed sengoku or edo periods usually full of pop-culture trash)

Bit of a johnny-come-lately here but I'm loving this mod and it even has the town I come from in it! Minor point but what is called Middelsburh in game is now called Middlesbrough rather than Middlesburgh  (the wiki page on the town claims the earliest recorded name form dating to Anglo-Saxon times was "Mydilsburgh" but I've no idea how accurate that is  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middlesbrough#Early_history  )

Good to know! I'm planing to sack and pillage Middelsburh when Cyning Penda Pybbing declare war on Bernnacia. I hate the Bernnacians, they think they are our equals... But they're nothing but scum, and I'll clear Northumbria from their filthy presence.

Hehe well as you know "Fate is already determined" so let's hope it favours you...     In recent times it is mainly the tribes of Geordie (Newcastle) and Mackem (Sunderland) that attempt to sack Middlesbrough when their footie teams visit (though not for a while since Boro was relegated)

That's surprising to me, I thought people were annoyed with how long it took to get a new game to start -- I had been running around like a headless chicken trying to figure out how to speed it up

Must say it loads nice and fast for me too - even the original installation (just got hold of Warband a couple of days ago in the Steam sale and Gekokujo was the first mod I went for).
I guess it may come down to the endless combinations of PC hardware out there and software set-ups.  Also I use IOBit Game Booster for virtually everything I play which seems to aid performance but that might just be my imagination.

Thanks very much for all the work you put into this wonderful mod.
  6. Gekokujo: Submods (Announce, Release, Comment, and Suggest)

Anybody else think Shcherbyna's sitting-cross-legged animation for men ("agura") and "seiza" for women would great for Gekokujo? See:

Ahhh!!! I love you I love you I love you! I can't believe there is a Makhno mod! I did my free choice history essay on the Makhnovtchina and if this mod is half as fun as reading Palij & Arshinov I will be very impressed.

Me very impressed. And who is Palij? I know Voiln&Arshinov.

Michael Malet's "Nestor Makhno in the Russian Civil War" and A. Skirda's "Anarchy's Cossack" are also interesting. For Russian readers there's also Belash's "Dorogi Nestora Makhno" -

Yeah, that's a good one too - although good old Mr Babelfish can be very helpful

My interest in the RCW comes originally from miniature wargaming (I'm scratchbuilding some 1/72 scale tachankas at the moment...) and there's some stuff around that might be useful for the mod:

And the RCW Yahoo group you can join (I made some Makhnovist flags for the photo section using that article as a main source):

  9. SP Modern [WB] Civil War in Russia 1917-1922 start porting to Warband and recruiting!

I'm enjoying this mod which does a fair job covering early 20th Century warfare within the limits of a medieval combat engine. Of course, I sometimes wish I could duck down behind cover or just kneel or go prone with all those bullets flying around. Being pretty rubbish as a player, I admit to using a couple of cheats when first starting out as I was being continually owned by a handful of marauders with guns

The RCW seems to been a far more fluid affair than the World Wars with quite a few cavalry charges in some theatres like the southern/Ukrainian front so it works better than most 20th C mods, I think.

Makhno seems a pretty interesting figure - a bit like a RCW Pancho Villa or Zapata maybe?
There's a pretty good Russian site http://www.makhno.ru/st/st0.php which has a lot of photos and stuff, including an article on flags and banners used by the Makhnovists http://www.makhno.ru/st/109.pdf

Excellent idea for a mod!

I watched the "Nine Lives of Nestor Makhno" drama series some time ago. Pity there doesn't seem to be an English
    subtitled version:

  11. The unfunny truth about Katanas.

    gyrobot said:
Thus, the myth of the Katana as the Gods' gift to weaponry was implanted fairly strongly on the traditional Japanese mind: And it endured long after those heathen-bastard gaijin came along and started helping people kill each other (rather dishonourably) with big metal tubes that made loud "bang" noises and spat smoke and lead- not to mention selling armour that offered five times the protection of traditional bamboo lattices at half the price, because it was that heavily engrained....

For unarmoured, lightly-armoured or bamboo-armoured combat, the Katana is a fantastic weapon. It'll slice a peasant in half at a single stroke, another samurai in two.

ARRRGH.  The appearance of the hoary old misconception that samurai armour was ever made of bamboo tends to throw doubt on the validity of anything contained in that rant.  No matter how many times it's clobbered into touch, sure enough it pops up again like an annoying rash. Honestly, where does that rubbish come from?

Japanese armour was NEVER made of bamboo! It was made of lacquered metal or leather scales:

  12. Tout your favorite mod

Onin No Ran for me but then it helps already having a deep interest in samurai warfare. Loads of immersive detail to relish.
  13. Im new and gobsmacked

I found this old post I made on Usenet back in 2001 describing my "dream" game:

    http://groups.google.co.uk/group/comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.war-historical/browse_frm/thread/ccb1fffb228b9e34/361d1dae33fa5afe?hl=en#361d1dae33fa5afe

"There would be a strategic/role play level..."

    *ticks*

"At the core of the game would be a tactical simulator that...would allow the player to take a 'First
Person' view as one of the mounted warriors taking part in personal combat and leading charges"

    *ticks*

"It would be based on the 12th Century Genpei War of Samurai Japan"

Well the Onin No Ran mod is 15th Century Japan but close enough

"Historical veracity would have to be major factor in the immersive flavour of the game - none of
the silly 'martial arts movie' compromises..."

Onin No Ran, right on the button.

"It will never happen, I know, but  I can dream  "

Glad to be proved wrong!

  14. Sieges?

I could only see this working on a small scale as M&B is a skirmish game. Perhaps a fortified mansion or a small palisade...
  15. M&B - Daimyo Wars Old Thread - Thread now closed

Medieval Japan will make a fantastic setting for a mod - good luck!

The Sengoku period is a great choice but the 10th-14th Centuries (Revolt of Taira Masakado, Gempei War, Mongol Invasions, War Between the Courts etc) are, if anything, even more suitable with the emphasis on heroic individual combat, horse archery and clans composed of small warrior bands.

You have scenarios like the Taira clan making its name crushing pirates of the Inland Sea and the adventures of Minamoto Yo****sune and Benkei.

Anyway, that would be another mod so I'll shut up...
